Chased the hour this session, didn't startwell as some muppet forgot to tighten his mast base upEmbarassed bloody goombaEmbarassedEmbarassed

After a quick tighten went out and did the dead, realised that Hardie has bigger feet than me, But I can live with it, the board feels a bit sticky on the fornt, somethings not quite right Oh well just plug away with itCool.

Stoked that fitness is coming back can now sail 30Nm without a break doing some long runs, gybes are starting ti happen as well.

Great session sailing with Adam and Hards, Seriously missed Binny out thereFrown Get well soon

LOC: DNF
Learnt a lot Go Bender!Cool Onya NebsCool Bigger gear next year CrasherWink Hiya BigdogSmile Awsome Slowie Cool.

Fantastic work 25.CoolCool
JP265 84l Rigged 5.7 Raptor but underdone so rigged 6.5 Raptor and used that.
Happy with start (probably not underway before Slowie passed first mark though).Wink
This event was like trying to run on a sinker over a 2 metre deep eggbox with gusty wind.

IMO (the following applies to me): that does not mean I recommend anyone else applies this to themselves:
Practice more on open ocean doing downwinders: that means start at A and go broad to B then drive back to A..... need to do several ks down wind each practice.( not sail upwind and back 'cos I do not get enough time going downwind). Surprised
scruteneering: they appear to be well meaning volunteersFrown. You need to know the rules really well 'cos they do not. Make sure they tick every box/sheet when checking in( ask them if they have done so 'cos again they seem not to know) so you do not have to go back a second time. Frown

the start is mayhem but you are inn in the same conditions: just go for it!Cool

You have 2 choices: plane all of the time or use a floaty boardUndecided . Big lumps to run down and gusts mean you are going away from the wind and when the wind also disappears sinkers are very unstable unless you are using a big sail and still powered up. So you pays your money and makes your choice: small board and big sail or big board and big sail. Either way I want some rocker so, as much as I would love to use Iso 105 I would need to be very confident on it across the mogul field from hell

If you are going to fall in use a floaty PFD to reduce time/fatigue waterstarting. 50n is not enough for this.
Never get eye contact with a safety boat unless you want to be picked up! They will ask you to give up, ask for your start # and report you as out of the race. If you decide you could go on you have already been recorded as out of the race. YellYell

Marks/ safety boats: if you are on a beam reach going towards a mark it is not....... the safety boats hang around and make that very confusingYell The idea that a safety boat has an orange flag and mark has a red flag is hopeless: differentiating between the colours is the last thing on your mind. safety boats are relative small (e.g 8-10 metres) Marks are on cray boats that are 20m+ and have superstructure. (kites to differentiate the marks would be a far better idea. Surprised

Go past the marks by a couple of hundred metres to reduce the broadness of the next leg Wink
It is remarkably unlikely you will ever need to use flares.Smile
Go to the evening presentation party at the Endeavour: it is great WinkCool

Summary: do it, this is not a practice nor is life a spectator sport.

Ledge to lano

Iso86, 6.7mRSS MKII, 34cm bentonic weed

Had a great start hookked in and took off. Very happy to not drop a gybe and be in control. Felt ok on the 6.7m but should have gone the 7.7m for more top ejd speed as i could not keep up with the big boys in the lulls. half way through i knew i was doing alright as i could still see the chopper hovering over the leaders on the same leg as me.

My goal was to get break my time PB of 56mins. One very happy Bender i placed 42nd and it took me 43mins yyyyyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Evets, Great read for someone considering doing the race for the first time.  It is no kiddies event.  You have to do serious training, and have a variety of gear well tuned to suit the conditions of the day.  I used to do a lot of wavesailing out at Lano, and experienced the full variety of conditions, from chugging in sub-planing conditions, to being way over-powered on wavebaord and 4.2 wavesail, in 4 metre swellsSurprised

Hey Evets,

After looking at the replay of the race, I reckon you were dudded with the call of "the leader has already finished" from the safety boat.  When almost at the second mark I remember passing a sail in the water that looked like yours with a yellow board attached, I thought it was you but wasn't sure.  I kept expecting you to pass me every time I fell in... on the second outbound leg I could hear the motor of your rescue boat getting closer, I was saying "Please don't pick me, please don't pick me"... it wasn't all that far behind when it must have found you.

Well done on having the guts to compete, many many sailors never get to experience what you've done Smile
