I have finally stopped crying after 2 hours of sobbing oops Cry................just lost it again..........

OK Composed........ What a day 5 to 45kts CG's/YY's........... Got up v.early checked the the wind data, there was a lot of north!!!!! Right I'm going!!  Get there its blowing about 25kts to 30kts in the gusts and I said to myself, right don't make the mistake of last time and rig too small ......so I rigged the 5.5m, Gaastra Vapor, Missile S, and this time used a bigger fin C3 Venom 26cm.

Get down to water wind is from NNW to NW and it drops to 5 to 15kts FAAAAARK I hate this PLACE!!!!!!!  Then a gust arrives about 20 to 25kts get planing down the run and 34.9kts, OK all felt good, Fin feels solid, Get back Then the wind picks up 30 kts.... 35kts Try to get going CATAPULT!!!! Get up front foot in strap, back foot pushes board out......spin ot!!!!!!!!!  Wind backs off and I'm stuck in middle FAAARK!! Swim it back  Wind about 25kts get a run 36.9 kts, thats better, Do another run similar winds 37.5 cool getting there, Fin feeling v.solid OK i've got confidence to push.  Next run wind picks up Catapult, spin out....... catapult........ spin out FAAAAAARK!!!!!!!!!  Wind backs off get another run 34 .5 kts.  On way back BANG!!!! Wind hits 40 to 50kts!!!!!!!!! Get slammed into water...... rigged gets flung 50 metres, swim swim swim swim.......... The wind has swung around to the WNW and feels unsailable, 500mm to 800mm chop  this lasts fro 30mins or so,  Another day SKUNKED YellTesticles feeling very grated!!!!!!!!!!  Oh Well Sandy Point is the only place an old fat bastard like me is ever gonna do 40kts, .... I can't wait to get obver there now Embarassed Finally wind backs off sail back to the bar, its blowing about 30kts consistently but straight down the run, Big following chop... But I need one more run to do a 5x10 so am debating do I do a suicidal broad downwinder or call it?

OK for the team!!.....One more run ........get back to the launch, wind drops out totally 5 to 10kts FAAAAAAAAAARRKK!!!!!!!!  How long do I wait??? After 15/20 mins wind comes back and It's NW, the bar is flat as a tack so I go for it, as I neared the bar a massive gust comes through and it feels like its behind me gone WNW again, but NO CHOP!!!!!!!  I feel like I'm sailing on Ballbearings, everything becomes extremely light and quiet, feels like a fast run....... faster and longer than previous ones, hoping for a high 38 or maybe a 39?  Look at GT-31 display 41.09kts Surprised WHAT? that can't be right, must be a spike?  Look at GT-11 display 40.95kts!!!!!!  What!!!!!!! I've done it?  But where are the FIREWORKS ,and the Crowds Cheering?  It should've felt more exhilirating?  It was way too easy?  RELIEF first, then after about a minute or two  A Deep Gutterral YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!! Was heard for many kilometers.   IN a funny way I just arsed it, I reckon I could sail that place again for the next 10 years and never arse a gust like that that swings from NW to WNW leaving the water almost mirror flat?  Oh Well as they say Fortune Favors the BRAVE!!

 Data from GT-31

"It was way too easy?" So true. You have days when your fighting all the way to get  mid 30,s then you get a pb day and think why was it so hard and just coast through. Mal W describes it" as being sucked down the course" just so easy some days. Now comes the hard part......WHATS YA NEXT NUMBER Wink

I've been lying in the bed with flu listening to the gale trying to blow the house down and wondering who was out there on the water braving some pretty ferocious gusts. Great job on a wild day!

PS Nice to hear some good news on the sporting front after I wasted most of my night watching England getting beaten on the cricket pitch.

Great :))... you really worked hard for it that day and it payed back ;).. It is interesting that also my fastest runs felt most relaxed :))..

Get catapulted in 30+ kts runs is not a joke, as I experienced recently, but it seems to be part of speed windsurfers life :)..

Way to go !

Well done Hardie - awesome effort, and story well told.

It's always such a big hurdle for people to crack 40, but when it comes, it nearly always feels light and effortless and makes you wonder why you could just go out and do it earlier.

Make sure you hold onto this buzz for as long as you can. The next PB will feel as good as this too.....and the one after that....

That's why we love it.

I know its a bit late Hardie now that your snail club membership has been well and truly burned but awesome work, I don't know of anyone in the chalenge that has been so close for so long, look out though for next summer your spot at the top speed of the mob will be under fire, and i should get a post on the board tomorrow in my time zone from location to be revealed once I get out
