Arrived at the PiT at 6.30am,tossed the dog out of the car and sat there in the pitch dark and pissing rain wondering what was going to motivate me to rig up..?

The rain backed off just before dawn and I flew into the job of rigging and turning GPS's on so I was on the water and straight into a really fun sessionCool

The wind was squally, the lulls were short and it was mainly ESE but a pretty full sort of wind for 16-27ish.

Area 45 session on CA SL58 with 5.5m stealth early and a quick squirt on the new (to me) CA44.  Unfortunately my second shot at the NM run was just short of the mile so only the first one counted which was a bit light and broad early on..  Think we need a little more south for this mile to be perfect - had a very tricky chop once the wind picked up and the tide was turning?  Caught me out on the 3rd run and had a big stack testing shoulder and helmet.  Peter helped me push the cams back onto my sail and then I went up to the other channel to see what it was like - bit calmer there but once again chop was tricky broad and not much bank showing.  Glad to have been able to get the 44 out - loving how much easier it is to get going than is50.   Hopefully Peter, Mat and co get some good results too..

Yeehaa! Finally pushed out a better NM. Very happy Laughing. Managed to strike Area 45 (in more ways than one Yell) with really good conditions - 25 knot approx ESE wind and low tide for a fairly smooth run down the 1.2 NM run. Still a bit of rolling swell down the run and a choppy section about half way that got the better of some of us today! -  but mostly pretty good.

Big crew of sailors out for a cold, wet wintry day - about 4 Pit Crew and about a dozen from the Inverloch sailing club/Southerly Busters. Great to catch up with all the crew.

I think I had more stacks today than I've had all together in the last six months. I found quite a few sand banks - the hard way  Yell. Catapaulted a few times, broke two harness lines but still a great day.

thought i had 5 nms to choose from but had NONE. too many invisible shallows for my sense of self-preservation, specially the 6inches toward the end of the nm course. otherwise a good day at mahers with half the pit crew and nearly all the local team. great commitment & courage peter and well rewarded.

Carbon Art SL55, KA Symmetrical 23 Speed, KA Koncept 6.4.

Less than three weeks after having an apricot sized tumour chopped out of my neck, I was rearing to go and wasn't disappointed! Area 45 proved to be a lot of fun and required concentration to miss the sand banks - but what a reward! Lack of experience here meant that I missed the NM by 200m Frown so next time I'll have to go deeper. The 28 knot NM has a gybe in it Surprised. That's the fastest I've sailed in this spot so I can't wait to do it on 30 knots with a speed board and 5.0!

Well done to Peter who was smoking down the course and spitting catapult sand with a smile on his face! Keen to see Matt's post.

Well done Guy,s.!!!! Great speeds Shelby and a well done Peter on the PB.

The family demanded my time today so 4 hours of driving was just not going to happen. I did manage to get in a Bump and Jump session at Ricketts though, wasn't even that cold.

John, it was the first run with the 5.8. Shame you didn't  get a chance to do a few more to get a good speed. At least we now know it is a good spot in the right conditions. I didn't actually mind the broadness of the run. The angle was fine for me, but I guess with more south it would have been a bit smoother.

I'm expecting some smoking times from Ado and Mat who were both flying down the run.

Congrats on PB Peter, 30 knot NM is a milestone as you work your way up the ranks.   Looks like a good spot going by your NM and Shelbys 2 & 10 sec numbers.

Will this be the place to break Hamma's NM Record????????

Just a late freesail on the bay at Ricketts for me.

Spotty, I think it has the potential to break Hamma's record, but only on the rarest of days. We need 30knots ESE or SE, VERY low tide and big bollocks because the start and end of the run is testing, to say the least! Had I completed any of three fastest runs without the gybe it looks like the NM would have been 33knots at least and that's on a slalom board, 6.4 and shrimpy sailor like me. Lets' see if Matt posts something up there. He was on a Missile...

Well guys I am glad you enjoyed THe Southerly Busters home territory.  Just do not spruke up the place too much as we will have everyone down there.  We do want to keep Area 45 off the radar and I guess we will allow The Pit crew to sail it every now and then as Kato found it but did not sail it all that often until the Southerly Busters took it onCool  BTW It really works better on low tide with an Easterly.  Great to see Pete's PB - well done and ado 37 2sec peak is smoking

Ado, I dont have any data to speak of... the GPS decided to reset itself to disable logging, which pissed me off somewhat -> in one run I had a 37.22 peak and the slowest parts of the run felt above 33-34kn (aka just cruisin')... at 72+5kg and a 6.4m

Spotty, I am convinced this run will peak over 40kn -> and I think we can do this in a standard 30-35kn SP easterly (provided there isn't any Notherly in it) as the Prom recorded 25-30 E for the day.

I will however now need to spend some money on a decent port-tack speed fin... I was on the starboard-tack KA 21 assy.

Pete you are like a fine wine, you are just getting better and better with age. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.

Great work to all the Pit Crew except for Matt, that loss of data must suck mate

Well done boys!..

You all played a good "away" game at our home ground- Area 45

The only thing I'd add is that the banks are changing on almost a weekly basis at the moment...there's a crapload of sand moving around the inlet so what works one week can be totally different the next.

It would normally be unheard of to get a SE 20-30 knt day this time of year but Sunday was just that.... lets hope for more!

Great to see you blokes out there smoking it....there's just a bout a run on every angle except Westerly so we're pretty happy with the spot

Really bad news Matt. Never mind, it was plenty of fun anyway and we now know what could be achieved when we get the NM length right and elecraptic devices cooperate! One particular 47+ run comes to mind for me! Wink Thanks for havin' us Mick!
