LOCATION:  TREADWELL'S RUN

WIND:  N-NW- 15-18 KTs PEAKING 20

TIDE:  INCOMING HIGH TIDE

SAILORS:  OLD SALTY, b3, MOONDO, MADVENTURE

GEAR:  JP Excite Ride 160, 42 cm JP FIN down to Excite Ride 135, 38cm Mean Fin.  KA Koyote 7.4 down to KA Koyote 6.6

DETAILS:  Great day sailing with a good crew...A highish tide meant there was a new run to explore and this thing is long....real long...nautical mile from end to end, a few lumpy sections but generally shallow and flat...Initially the wind was a bit fluky but definately fun.  Noticed my 2nd batten was looking a bit weird and closer inspection revealed it had broken near the luff.  Continued to sail it for a few more runs but it felt a bit unbalanced...Came back in and changed down boards and sails to the 6.6 and Excite 135.  The wind came in and had a great blast with all 5 of us pegging along within about 2-3 knots of each other speed wise

Highlights:  1)  Having a hoot of a downwinder with Old salty....both totally pegging along for about 500 metres

2)  Seeing B3 post his first session...awesome stuff!

Lowlights:  1)  Getting caught under the 7.4 and it went into the wind.  I was still hooked in and got to the point where I had no breath left.  I remembered the theory that the moment you feel your lungs are totally empty you have  about 10 seconds before you black out.  I made one last grab at the harness, got it free and pushed away from the rig....came up with about 3 seconds to spare!!!

Late morning light wind session at Green Point. Mostly potting along, but a few gusts followed by being on the plane for some stretches. Good to get out again. Bondy arrived later when it was all over.

Area 45 - Treadwells Run.   15 - 20 Kts NNW in morning and 15 kts NW in afternoon  Mid to high tide

Worked well in this direction.  Could get over the sandbars with the 42 cm fin

Mistral Barge 144 Select 42 cm fin

Koncept 6.6

Felt real good when locked down.  Took boom height up to chin and had harness lines wider apart(2 hands) and closer to the front of the boom(5 hands) - thanks to Kato's advice.  Just great to have the long runs compared to Inverloch.  Water was relatively flat 30cm chop considering was not low tide.  Fastest I have been outside The PIT.  All in all a great day.

Sailed with B3, Drift, Moondoo and Madventure

Hey Mick - did not realise you got caught under the sail hooked in - nasty.

Funniest moment when Drift and I where smashed by a gust and as we surfaced B3 swanned past.

Hey Old salty...how close are the numbers?????? We practically swap the Nautical Mile for the Alpha

Yeah I got caught under at the start of the second session.  I reckon the Gath made a difference.  In the past I have been able to get my head up against the sail and suck a breath in the air pocket under the sail.  Today I couldn't get my face close enough to the sail to get any air...it was a matter of centimetres.  I gave it 2 goes and then thought " you've only probably got one more stab at it" so I thought releasing the harness would be a pretty good idea!

Great to see new team members posting and the team exploring the northerlies at Area45. Had only 3 hours and had to stay closer to home today, so next time for me down there.

Drift, there must have been less air left in your lungs than after my epic stack a few months ago. Smile

Thanks Steve,

Not many tiimes that happens.  Mick was damn close though.  We had some good times out on the water, just great to see how flat it was on a NW at Mid to high tide at 20kts.  Definitely a better place to be than Rye

Excellent speed Doug, I wouldn't mind to try Treadwells Run in a N or NW. Is anyone going tomorrow? Forecast look pretty promising and not too cold either:

Tuesday: Winds: Northerly 15 to 25 knots tending north to northwesterly 20 to 30
knots around dawn. Seas: Up to 3 metres. Swell: Westerly 1 to 3 metres. Swell:
Easterly 0.5 metres.

Welcome to the team challenge B3 - as per others comments, it is quite addictive!!

Good to hear you made it clear of your sail Mick! I had a conversation about just that issue on Saturday at Rye while waiting for the wind to fill it and noted how really non-quick release my seat harness is.

Moondo, a full row of PBs, how good is that, well done.  You must have had great conditions, better than us last week. We couldn't get over the sandbar then.
