Talked a few of the team into Hardies in a lame (blame the wind) attempt to snatch the month from the locals.

Given the lack of wind the hr seemed the only option and am wraped with result.

Placed an un-realistic trust in the weather forecast and decided to knock of work early and try Pt Walter again for the the first time in a long while.

it was very gusty, shifting direction a lot, very shallow, very rocky and the crabs are obviously in seasonYell, but it was still good fun. there were quite a few runs where you did a run and then sat at the end waiting for the wind to come back in again so that you could do the return leg which was frustrating, but when the wind came it was good and was pleasantly suprised when i looked at the speeds.Laughing

Well I gave it a crack... but the wind didnt really play ball for 1 hours. Was powered up some of the time on the 7.8m but mostly coasting. After I got the hour out of the way on the mistral 110 and JP36 weedie, I went on a mission to try to up the 2 sec and 5x10. It looked windy enough to get planing on the Nude 42 so I thought I shouldnt waste the opportunity and gave it a crack with the KA23 sym fin. Wow it actually worked OK! The only drama was off the wind in the chop, the 7.8m was pushing the little stick onto the water a bit too much. Felt unreal, and wasnt too bad getting back upwind. Across the wind it felt wicked. Got my fastest run on this setup, but with crasher breathing down my neck I thought I'd better try to get some better times so put the Nude 54 for a few runs. Didnt better that but gave an alpha a go when I saw an appropriate gust. A bit underpowered (= slow) on the entry but got a nice gust on the way out. Good to see some of the team show up. Great effort today Sam! The distance machine...

Edit: just checked my alphas again- the one I thought was my fastest was only #4. The faster ones were in the chop on the outside. strange.

You said you had a good one, well done mate.

Sausage, that's the nature of the hr here, long downwind runs, usually throws up a NM not much under the 2sec. Unless you really do a deep bearaway somewhere along the line.

With 20-25 knts of wind and fit legs there is going to be a 27knt hr come out of here,

Haven't see a PB next to your name for a while Slowy - so congratulations, though somehow I think you can do better than that.

My general rule-of-thumb is that you are around 10% faster than me on any given day, so if I can do a 26 knot hour, then we're looking for a 28.5 from you.

Better get to it!

Yes we want a MASSIVE hr from Mr Boat, what is he really capable of.  I know I know The hour is hard very hard grinding work, and Glamour Boyz like to do the 2sec 5x10 and NM, but I dont think that slowie is a Glamour Boy, I reckon, he could do an ozzie record?

I think its possible for a 27+ on the right day. John was ripping it! I checked my tracks and had half of it doing figure 8. Need to tune my compass a bit better. Also the combo I was using was not very comfortable. The Mistral 110 is a bit sticky with a 7.8m. It felt great in the gusts, but I was losing a lot of speed in the lulls- hence my comment on the conditions not being ideal. Also the big weed fin was killing my ankles and probably not helping the top speeds too much. 32.8kts was my peak in the hour. John was making the most of it for sure. I think the best combo will be a smaller sail on a smaller board in a bit more wind. I only just realised that was a PB :) Havent seen one of those for a while. I'd better not go too fast next time so I can have a few more PBs this summer Tongue out

stoked for norts, kicking my butt in the 1 hour yesterday Wink

Mike, that was the first time I got the 42 going in some steady breeze (maybe 18-22kts). Seems to work well with the KA23. It was actually pointing just fine. The sail is helping that a lot. Its so stable I can keep steady on the rig, and find the balance easily on the board. Cant wait to fire him up with a 5.5m. I think some of the new speed fins coming out might have gone a touch overkill on the surface area. Makes it easy to blast around on but there is a drag penalty from all that extra surface. Fine if you need it but if you dont, then its like having trainer wheels on Cool. I'm still stoked with the KA 23 sym. It seems to be a good balance of area, stiffness and rake for most days when you are moderately powered up. I'd better get a mould made since these fins are becoming a bit scarce...

Sammy- aim high...

Mr Boat said "the new speed fins coming out .............like having trainer wheels"Wink

& also these new Speed Fins require 40+ knots of wind to make them move & reach 45 knots of speed, (not very efficient) doubt they will do 50 knots/ 500meters.Sealed

Been modeling various Speed Fins in X-Foil 3D, will have to look at the KA 23cm, think Choco hit 46 knots on this fin while back.

I'd be stoked to get a 30kt NM off leighton. Other places can be harder or easier. "in the ocean" / "open water" is a bit vague. For example Warnbro is open water chop, but it has some long stretches of fast water so I'm sure 33/34 would be quite a reasonable target on a windy (25kt) day. Especially down near Port Kennedy. Dunno about albany, but it looks pretty shallow where Darryl was sailing.

Firiebob

I can't remember Albany harbour but Darryl's Nm is impressive. I'm thinking open ocean like standing on the beach and no sand bar, reef or land etc for as far as you can see, like Leighton or Cotttesloe's Dutch Inn etc. Like Chris A it's just a personal goal of mine, I remember you Ando trying a while back in what I'd call open ocean, as Slowy says ocean can be a bit vague but I'd say we know. Troppo has done nearly a 36 Nm 40 K's off shore, nearest land (Green Is) was 8 K's away Wink

It might be easier or harder for me here but let me tell you if it ever happens you'll hear me screaming over there Wink My best so far a year ago is 28.85 Doppler, I'd say another 1.25 will be like going to the moon Cry

Slowy I remember you posting once a 36 2sec at some beach called Crazzies, surly a 30+ Nm was on the cards and no I've never forgotten that one Surprised
