Another great exploring day at Wallyworld. Great to see Nebbs back on the water. It's been too long! Had fun chasing around behind the bar. Rigged the 5.7 thinking it was going to nuke. Really comfy sailing but not too fast. Changed up to the 7 for the last part of the session. Thought alphas behind the bar were going to be good but on analysis was pinching on the way in so too slow. Oh well! Know better for next time.

Great to see a bunch of crew out on the water.

Pelican Point, WA, 16-28kts, Sonic 90, Koncept 6.6, GW32

Crazy morning, couldn't get the gear set quite right so it was a bit uncomfortable and not that fast.

Porka was doing some smoking runs on the speed board. Somepunk thought he'd give the 7.8 a try Surprised not for long. Trousers was fanging too.

Ggreat start to a Sunday!

Pelican Point, 115L, 7.5m I was way overpowered on 7.5.

Great sail at Peli. Got on the water at about 8 and enjoyed the best of the wind. Crazy shoet period chop out in the middle, but some reasonably flat water in near the point. Could have rigged bigger, but glad I didn't during the bullet gusts.

Good to see a few Pinnaroos about plus the usual peli pt crew.

Fun easterly sesh at Peli. Cool

First hour on the 93 S-Type + 6.6 TR7 + 34 Talon for the best speeds.  Combo was great in the gusts, but I struggled a bit inside the lee of the point.

Some ripper gusts coming through that must have been high 20s, but mostly out in the middle where the chop was insane.

Came in to change up cos the breeze felt like it was backing off a bit.  Switched to the F111 + 7.6 TR7 + 40 Talon.  My first run across the river on that set-up had me seriously questioning my idea to change up Surprised but it settled down a bit after that.

Went for a few alphas, but it was pretty choppy out on the point and the flats weren't that flat, so speed across the breeze was average.

30 minutes into the second part of my sesh the Talon sheared off, more or less flush with the fin box, so I body-dragged in until I could stand and walked the rest of the way.

Spewing about the fin, it was only 18 months old, and it was my fave fin for the 111.

Still drove home with a smile on the dial, it was a great morning on the water. Laughing

Point Walter, iSonic 94, Loft Blade 5.6, C3 Venom 30 cm.

Couldn't let that lovely strong easterly go to waste so made the trek down to Wallyworld to find Lao Shi coming in.

Great to hop on the slalom gear again, happy with my speed, any day over 30 is a good day in my books Cool

Not sure how I could have gone faster, perhaps a bit more sail (6.2 or so) and perhaps some weight?  Weird direction for the wind, Lao and I had some runs way downwind of the bar, felt like we were almost in Fremantle.  Great fun Laughing

Point Walter, WA, AU

Manta 69, RSS MkIII 7.0m2, JP42

Got there for a 7.30 start with the breeze pushing 30 knots in the squalls.  Could've rigged smaller sail and fin but wanted to test the upper end on this combo - well I found it.  Uncomfortable from start to finish.  Couldn't go to the lee of the spit because of the fin, so stayed upwind of the spit in some seriously grovelling conditions - came back in but wasn't fired up enough to rig down and go out again - just made some bad choices today.  Nice to meet Slowy at last.

Great to see you posting again Nebbian!

Glad to see so many of you got out for a sail.

The wind looked wonderful but I wasn't up to it today. Mind was willing but body was weak...

How were conditions downwind of the bar?

Thanks WindXTC and Greg, it was great to get back on the board and do a real sport Cool

Wind downwind of the bar was surprisingly good, I got my best speed well downwind of the spit, for some reason there really wasn't a lot of chop out there.  Should have listened to Lao though and put up a bigger sail... at one point I went just that bit too far and ended up in a mega wind shadow... had to uphaul.  Once I'd got back up I sailed ten metres and was fully lit up again.

Amazing speeds for Peli there Pointman and Chris!  Nicely done.

Good outing, team. Lots of 30+

Still not sure why you guys like Peli so much! Gluttons for punishment but good speeds.

Sorry that I missed you, Birdman.

Bummer about the fin, Pointman. Had it shown any signs of cracking?

Nebbs, I think if you look at the tracks a bit more bear away is needed but you need the power to do it. I reckon that is going to be a very rare experience as there were almost no boats coming round Chidley Pt and normally they are a constant procession on a weekend.Laughing

spewing about the fin... I heard tectonics went to chinese G10 a while ago. Shame. I havent seen any fins made from proper G10 in a long time. Its all hit and miss chinese cheese. cheeeep cheeeep but expensive still. Despite mostly coming from "that" factory with a bulk price of ~$40 per fin. Hard to compete with that manufacturing cost so everyone is going there to get their fins made now. A bit like boards. Nothing like the original mil spec G10 they used in the late '80s and early '90s. That stuff lasts forever. Costs twice as much though. Generally you get what you pay for.

Mark, last time I sailed Peli on a strong easterly it was really flat in the shallows and great for alphas (got my 24 PB).

Yesterday it was pretty choppy (funny because you'd think it would be flatter with more north in the breeze) and I struggled to get a good alpha.

Wallyworld was probably a better choice for speed yesterday, but I still had fun.

Fin had some signs of stress around the base, but no cracks as such.

Great sesh guys, not sure how you do 100ks on an easterly mark Surprised great going though!! Sucks about the fin pointy, especially with no real cause. Uni's really busy at the moment and I'm recovering from a minor hamstring strain, so haven't even thought about sailing in some time. Over easter hopefully!
