Top afternoon down at Sandringham! Started out on the 5.3 wave sail and recorded some 27's but couldn't go faster. Then I changed up to the 6.2 knowing I'd be badly overpowered out in the channel, where it was gusting a good 5-10kts faster than behind the sandbar. While the water was still flat I got several readings over 30kts and a peak of 32.8 - that was pretty exciting! Sadly not quite enough to get the 5x10s average above 30 too. Can't wait for my helmet to arrive - I'm sure the thought of head hitting mast/boom kept me from pushing it harder...

Smashed the 30 knot barrier easily! Its good to see you are making good use of your new board and sail.

Awesome!! Just goes to show how much of a difference equipment can make. I've not sailed at that location before... is it better for speed than the runway in a NEster?

Cheers guys.

I've only ever tried that spot in SW-SE as it's much flatter than out in the bay with a southerly (behind the sandbar at least). But in a NE wind I reckon it'd either be very bumpy where it's exposed to the whole bay, or very gusty where it's sheltered by the land. Probably far fewer jetskis though...

I was talking about using it in Southerly (though I did not state it very well!!)... not NE. Just wondering how it compares in a Southerly for windstrength and water flatness to a NE up near the runway. Can you achieve better results down there given optimal conditions for both? I have normally sailed up in the chop in the bay in southerlies and forget about going fast and go for fun. I am wondering if I should give that location a go.

Anyone going out for the NE predicted tomorrow? Trying to decide if I should bring my gear to work tomorrow.

Ah, yes - your email makes more sense now! Yes, I'd say it is better than the runway as the wind has always seemed pretty solid there in a southerly, whereas the runway in a NE'er always seems to have holes in it if you go close to the buoys. Hoping to get out tomorrow arvo but that depends in getting the car back from the garage so not certain. Looking nice though.
