Sailing Club,Queens Lake, NSW, AU

Sailed from the Sailing club. Will always sail from this side now in N to E winds.

Tested the JP Pro Edition 165, Super lightwind 92. ( Big thanks to Mark Jordan )

Used a 7.5m VMG (as recomended on the JP Web site ) Had to use the JP 36cm weed fin. I didn't have long enough fin bolts to use my 42cm Weed fin.

Board was easy to get planing in about 10 to 12 knots with the 7.5m sail. If I had the right size fin & a bigger sail I could get it planing in about 8 knots I recon. I did just under 24 knots with the 7.5m & JP 36cm weed fin. Fin held on well only had a few spin out when I hit big weed patches. I recon I could do over 27 knots on the board in the right conditions with the right fin. Board handled the chop very well. Felt like riding a big slalom board. I could get the board pointing into the wind just as good as my I-Sonic 122. I liked the raised humps under the foot straps. Felt very comfortable under foot. Easy to get feet in & out of foot straps while sailing.

Very Easy board to sail. The more I sailed it, the more I liked it.

Jordan's Boating centre - Port Macquarie, NSW, AU

JP trailor in town. Fanged around on a NP 7.7 which was the biggest sail i have ever seen. Didnt really get going that well as the wind was up and down. Jumped on Mark's Fanatic Falcon with the same sail for a couple of laps and holey cow that thing moves!!!!!  I wasnt even moderately powered and it was cranking - got to get me one of those for the lake - such a balanced board and so light and easy to sail - looks awesome too. would love to ride it fully powered

A BIG thanks to Mark Jordan for getting the JP trailer in and being so generous with your time, and mostly for giving me a fang on your black beauty. Thanks to the JP importers for putting together the kit and sending it around the coast - great idea.

Nic and I went to Middle Rock at 5pm and sailed for another 1.5 hrs doing some non-planing wavesailing. Had a go sailing Nic's SUP in surf and it was so much fun - guess I have to get on of those, and a VW long wheelbase Transporter to carry it all around in too - oh dear!

Gabe,

Ask Adam what brand of SD card he bought! His works fine. I know how you feel about the WIND DROUGHT !! Cry This has been the worst Summer I can remember. The Temperature on the Land has not been hot enough ( with all the rain) to make good winds.

Hi Gabe and Mark. I bought a 2GB card - brand was Sandisc. Got it from a camera shop

Hi Adam and Mark,

Believe it or not I bought a sandisk sd 2gb card and it wouldn't get recognised. Kept saying card found- Bad Format.Well, I went back and swapped the card for another sandisk 2gb, thinking the card was a dud, but this one also wouldn't work either.Tried it in my unit, the same result.Tried formatting -no go. My SD card a Dick Smith 2 gb card works fine in Chris' unit too.

What bugs me the most was that Matt K bought exactly the same one from the same place and his works fine. His Gt31 came from the same supplier with the current V.1.4 firmware.Very weird!   I'm waiting for a delivery of a Transcend 2gb SD card, which is also supposed to work.Fingers crossed.

I agree re: the worst Summer for wind in a few years. We'll know by Easter if the SOI starts going into Positive whether we will get a El Nino next year, which coincides with lots of wind and hot dry Summer. Bring it on.

Hi Gabe & Adam.

I tried a Sandisk SD 2GB card when I first bought my GT-31. It never worked. I took it back and got a Lexar SD 2GB card. Worked fine. I bought that at Harvey Normans. When Steve bought his GT-31 he bought a Lexar SD 2GB card ( Multi-use ) written on it. Never worked. Lucky I bought a few spare Lexar SD 2GB cards when I got mine. Gave one to  Steve and he gave me the Multi-use card with I used in a camera. Lexar must have changed the cards a bit when they went to mutli-use.

Gabe when you fine one brand that works I would sugest to buy a back up card.

Hehe... The GT31 mystery continues. I bought a 2GB Sandisk from Officeworks and it is working fine so far. There were a few different models within their 2GB range and after already having a failed attempt with a bigger size and different brand, I just went for the super basic one. I'm not sure whether that makes a difference? Big thanks to Captain Mark for all his patience and help setting up my GT31 and getting me started! Also big thanks to Mark & Maree J for my first ever play with cams on Sunday and for helping me do my very first post! Now for some decent wind to get some half decent pbs... ;-)

Very interesting. Well the Transcend 2gb card turned up. Loaded it , card found, bad format. Oh No!!!.Not again!! Don't panic. I formatted the card twice, and re-booted and lo and behold -   CARD FOUND- NEW fILE. At Last it finally worked. I was about to despair.

Salty I can tell you that no sd card over 2gb will work. Correct voltage 2.7v dc -3.3v dc is the range needed for the gt31.Bit of a mission to get the right card but worth it in the end. There's a list on the readme text file of the firmware update available on the Mt.Best website.

We're hoping for some wind over the next few days if the forecasts hold out. Chris is now keen to get her first posts happening too.Best of luck.

Some one should try formatting a bad card with a PC to Fat16 file and then put it into the GT-31 and see if it works.

Or just forget about using cards and use the data logger function, USB cable and Navilink.

Oooh! Does it work? I've been tight and trying to avoid buying a card reader. I installed the drivers last week but could only get it to upload the last run of my session rather than the whole lot. Maybe a problem with my gt31 settings rather than the direct upload?

I have to use the data log function as the card writing function on my GT-11 is stuffed. The function works fine but it is more work than using a card. If your GPS is set up as per the guide on the Mt Best site then it's right to go. Two issues I find are getting the right coms port in Windows. I go to the device manager to find it as every time you connect the GPS the port changes. Secondly in Navilink you need to make sure you are downloading log data rather than track data. Like all this GPS stuff I recommend setting things up as best you can and then testing it by going for a walk outside and then downloading and uploading the data to see if it all works or not. It is fairly complex at the start but if you break it down it's manageable. The only real limit with inboard data logging is I think it's limited to about 8 hours of data logging.

Karl the other problem with not using the SD card is, If you don't clear the data logger before your next sailing session you might not record your whole next sailing session if you do big KMs.

Using the SD Card is the best of recording your sailing session and easiest way to do your posts. SBN files are allot more accurate then using GPX & SBP files. Nicole I strongly recomend that you buy the card reader & just use your SD card to do your posts.

Hehe... You and Adam already had me convinced ;-) Just haven't had the chance to get to BigW yet. Hopefully tomorrow. Does seem crazy that in 2012 you can buy a device that is SO much fun yet incapable of direct upload to PC in a user friendly way! Time to let the dream go and hit big dub ;-)

What you say is true Mark. I was only suggesting an alternative to using a SD card if its  hard finding a card that works. Clearing the onboard data isn't too hard and most people don't windsurf for more than 8 hours in a day. I don't know the accuracy of SBN vs SBP files though at my level it doesn't really matter.

Here is hoping for some wind this weekend.
