Area 45, Mahers Landing, VIC, AU

Road trip to 45 with Evan today, never felt comfortable all day struggled sailing broad in the nasty chop and a bit overpowered.

Had a nasty catapult early in the day and never got back into it, no excuses I just sailed shit. Smile

Evan seemed to be handling the conditions well and as usual the pit crew and the busters were tearing it up.

Finally beat Jerry on distance!!!

Good to see so many on the water. In awe of the real speed guys. Talk about quick!

I have a few stabs at the speed run but I wasnt all that comfortable. Fin spun out a few times in the chop. Not bad going for the Kode and wave gear I think. Bit hairy at times. Good day all round though.

That was a mission out there today Jerry, tough conditions.  Evan - i reckon you beat everyone on distance today, we were all concentrating on speeds and you were just cruising around all day on your wave gear.Cool

Hey Dan, I should have kept sailing for a while longer as there wasnt as much on the clock as I thought. I did take a few shots at the "speed run" but I wasnt liking the chop too much. Had more fun down the far end just past the bouy trying to gybe in that almost flat water.

Thanks Jerry. Having a catapult right from the start would put me in a fairly defensive mode so maybe that's partly why you were not feeling comfortable. Like you said, the 20 ish knot days are genrally the best at 45 for all round sailing.

Sounds like there was a lot of action down there on many levels.

Evan, well done on the speeds for the gear you were on and the conditions. Really good stuff.

Jerry, I think that when you're not used to getting catapulted, then it suddenly happens at what was probably 30kts, it is definitely going to shake you up. It's not like the learning days where you get catapulted all the time, and you half expect it, and its probably at 18kts or so!!

Maybe you might have been more comfortable on the JP single thruster.

I had a look at Ricketts last night and guys were on 4m sails and some smaller. Quite a few were standing on the beach watching.

Getting catapulted at 30 or so knots at area 45 can hurt. Jerry will remember my last trip there. Well Evan great speed on the kode. Maybe time for a kode 80.

Cheers Bondy and Steve. Steve, I think with a fin and a sail more suited there's still a few knots extra available from the Kode. But that's fast enough for me and is getting too specialised anyway. Regarding the Kode80 - I'm still undecided. I also like the Evo 81 or 86. I enjoyed the demo. Not sure I want something as fast as the Kode80 for my high wind board. Not going to rush. Saying that, the Kode80 probably would have been a great board to be using on Friday.
