Coal Point, NSW, AU 6.6m maui with 90l 320 fin. had a great sail was blowing realy well at coal point but not very windy at sand islands.

Andy was the legend of the day with 150km up and he went back out for more but unfortunatly the wind was droping. Going to be sore for racing in Sydney tomorow.

Murry and trent doing the friendly local of taking some top photos over at the sand islands. can not wait to see them.

Exocet Sting 134, Mauisails TR8 7.6, Select RS7 51cm - Wind NE 10-15 kts

Looked windy when i started but dropped off pretty quickly.  Sail felt great when powered up.  Tried the 9.0 towards the end but more like formula conditions at that point.  Geoff was cruising, looking comfortable on his new board.  Looking forward to a big day of sailing at the slalom racing in Sydney tomorrow.

I have been thinking about a “Distance Travelled” attempt all season. The trouble is many things have to align. Firstly early in the season is no good, as I would have no ‘windsurfing fitness’, then of course you need a windy day that starts to blow early and continues until late. Then you need a completely free day with no distractions such as having to go to work.

After a  quick look at the individual team ranking, it was clear that the only category that I had any chance of leading was distance travelled. So the target was Byron’s 148 km.

The day looked promising, NE forecast and no afternoon storms. The wind picked up at around 8.30 am, but then died away again. It wasn’t til 11.00am,  that I decided there was enough to get started.

Headed out on the CA70 with TR8 8.4. Just enough to get planing, but continuous hard work. Annoyed that I hadn’t started on the Formula 159. I kept thinking it would pick up, but it didn’t after 55 minutes and 22 km, I swapped to the formula. Continued on to lunch at 1pm having only done 54 km.

By the time I had eaten the wind had really picked up. I put up a 6.8 and swapped to the Isonic 101. Probably should have rigged a 6.0, but I was worried that it might drop. Put on 69 km in the next 2 ½ hours. Then had another longish break.  Continued on with the same gear up to 160 km then grabbed the bigger CA70 board for the last few Km. Sadly the wind dropped fairly early, the last kilometre was not planing and agony for the arms.

I carried the normal GT31 but also my Garmin 310XT which allowed me to monitor my progress more easily. The Garmin logged the distance as 172.8 km (I stopped it every time I came ashore)

Don’t think I will be sailing tomorrow……..

Exocet 67 Gaastra 6.0

Looked fairly windy but as soon as I was rigged it started to fade. Anyway got my first runs up on the Exocet and it felt good. Just need to sort the spinout.

ENE 18 - 22

Very choppy between Marks and Coal Point, wind angle not quite right for sandis to work 100%

Great arvo with the rest of the crew, in a location we just have to pinch ourselves is on our doorstep
