Despite the forecast the lake was remarkably benign. Rigged 6.7m and for a moment thought I had over-rigged as a big gust came through, but for the hour and a half I was out was never overpowered and never got one decent speed run, in fact it was surprisingly choppy. And bloody freezing! Anyway good to get out and shake off the cob-webs on the Falcon 99L.

Canton, around 25 knots SW

Carbon Art Speed50, KA Race 5.5, 22cm Choco weed

ooooooh new toys!

I was always going to rig and sail the shiny new KA Race 5.5 today - no matter what the wind. You know how it is with new gear. Canton was pretty deep and choppy, so a speed board wasn't the best choice, but I really wanted to see how this combo went.

I rigged early when I got there just to see if the sail would work on my really old NP X3. Turns out i's not too bad, the sail had a nice shape, but the cans need a real SNAP in a gybe. When the wind finally came in, everyone disappeared up to Peel st. Rick gave me the sympathy vote and stuck around, then Rexy rocked up, so at least there were three of us...

Frustrating South Westerly at Georges River.

Trecked way upwind into Quibra Bay, then the wind died.... fell in the freezing water about 5 times trying to get to land. Sat on a remote beach for 15 minutes with my feet buried in sand trying to warm up, while I waited for the wind to return, then made it back...

Some Scary gusts over 30kts, and some annoying lulls down to about 3kts!

Good to see Roar and a bunch to chicken to brave the cold water and annoying winds - but thanks for the encouragement!

Excoett RS2, Mauisails TRX 6.3, 31cm Select fin. Sweet setup!

Hanging for a sail today, up to Canton on a big forecast which didnt really happen. Bloody freezing, all the boys chatting and hiding behind the dunny block. Wind picked up finally so decided to try new secret spot. Looked bloody windy at first. Choppy until you got downwind and then smoothed out. Had some really nice runs with a couple of good slingshots into the shallows. Pretty easy to get back upwind but wind started to back off.

I have never had such freezing feet, Pugs reckoned they looked like a corpse. Couldnt even tell if I was in the straps. Lost a chunk of toenail ala Mick and my feet thawed out end of F3.

had a blast so worth the trip. Great to catch up with the fella's, we all got a bear hug from the Frother. great spot and great company.

Canton  SSW 20-25 knots

Carbon Art 44   North Warp F2013 5.7   Vector DWS 23

After freezing for a few hours we decided to brave the icebergs.

A bit bumpy with a few flat spots for some nice hang on bear aways.

Great sail with Mike and Rexy.

All the other guys ran away to Peel street, I think they are building a railway or something over there. I hear they have 2 railway sleepers to start with.

Sweet speed LArko. And yes, they are corpse feet for sure!

MIke, those cams will ease up on rotation after a few sails. My 6.3, 7.1 and 7.9 were really sweet after about 3 sessions on the water.  Go easy on the tack strap on the KA Race as i have found too much makes rotation much more difficult, but a little tension on it works well. I hope she felt good today, it is a sweet looking sail.

Sorry for dragging down the average men! Nice work Rick. I reckon Saturday was the coldest days windsurfing I've had in 26 years in Australia...

Gotta agree with you there Lee. It was freezing at Canton even hiding out of the wind. I escaped to "Secret Spot No 7" and it was a bit better, until you got in the water. Never had such frozen feet, still good fun though.
