Boggy Lake, SA, AU

I can't recall such a windy start to a season. When I bought my 5.2 a couple of months ago, I couldn't imagine ever needing anything smaller.

Today: BOM forecast 18knots, but when I arrived at ten it was clearly alot more than that.  Well into the twenties, perhaps even 30kt gusts.  The west had mashed it lumpy.  Once again my only option was the Fantatic 78l (a board I have never felt comfortable on), my 5.2 Hellcat and a 32.5cmBP.

My first session I was woefully setup and made out and back to shore once, most of it out of the harness, fighting EVERYTHING.  The board seemed to warp to 20kts from standstill with no provocation, and I had trouble gettting locked in before I found myself screaming over chop, my foot yet to go in the back strap and mostly out of control.

Before my second session I applied more downhaul and took the step forward a bit on the board.  This brought me an iota of control and I managed a few runs that finally didn't qualify as suicidally reckless. But not many.  And gybes? Survival ones at the best.

So in all an overpowered, swimming-heavy, day.  But I got a few good runs in, so maybe all is not lost with this rig.  Just gotta learn to tame the shrew.

[Edit: Well bugger me, fastest I've ever been apparently!  That makes me feel better]

Short session, wind was all over the place and water was very rough with the wind swinging with every gust, bump and jump board would have been ideal, never really let it go off the wind still half asleep and didn't want to risk crashing.

Windy westerly.  Very choppy and hard work. Glad to make it back without a crash. Glad to have carl up the top with me in the crazy mess

Crazy, choppy westerley Surprised.  Got there early and the wind was westerly mid to high 20's and had white water with rolling swells.  Rigged the 5.5 and when finished rigging Sam turned up - he wasn't going to come so was i glad to see himSmile.  We headed up the top and boy was it choppy and too tight to run off the reed bed.  Hitting the back of rolling swells.  It was alot of fun and good to see you made it Sam for some courage in crazy conditions.

Boggy lake - 20 - 25 knots with a couple of stronger gusts.

Patrik 87 / Hot sails GPS 5.5 and S07 29 select fin.
