Short but sweet session at the Kennedy Slicks. Forecast was 19 mph, I expected 25 and got them when I rigged - and then it picked up to 32 when I hit the water. Too much for the 117 l slalom board and my skills. Had left the small slalom board at home, so used the 3S 96. Not sure why I was so slow - the sail may have needed more downhaul, and perhaps I was too tired after sailing 6 of the last 7 days. Still it was plenty of fun going into jibes at full speed on perfectly flat water - here's an example: https://youtu.be/zgOJPRl5I_I

Wow, it's #1 Alpha for individuals on GPS Team Challenge..

What kind of GPS do you have?

That's an amazing alpha, especially considering the 2 sec & 5X! Please excuse me for asking, but is it correct?

Congratulations on the PB's.

I would say a spike in the data on the 5th!

Hi Alsonoff,

I am not sure what program you are using but I think the 500 is your best 500m run (witout a gybe in it). The alpha is the one you should be posting under alpha racing 500m. 19.67 sounds more like what you'd expect with a peak of 33 knots. The zero for another post means you did not do a gybe which qualified as an alpha. An alpha is the average speed for a run with a gybe in it, over a distance of around 500m, where the start and finish are less than 50m apart. If you do a very tight gybe you can sometimes achieve that proximity before reaching 500m. If the start and finish are greater than 50 m apart you will record an alpha of zero.

You can check your results by entering them in Ka72.com (free) or getting a copy of realspeed.

The top alpha in the GPSTC prior to your post was by Jacques Van der Hout - 30.45. On that day his 2 sec peak was 48.45 knots. You lose a lot of speed gybing, so a gybe of 31 knots when the 2 sec was 34, would require very smooth gybing indeed!

Guys, forgive me if I confused all of you.  I do not realy understand what ALPHA means, Please educate me in simpl worlds.

I'm using BGT-31.  Here is a copy of results from last session. Am I confusing (Alpha Racing 500m (Kts)  With ALPHA = "0"

I see alpha on 7/4/2014 session = 19.67 ?

4/5/2015

Anita,  I appreciate your explanation, it make a sence. I should do more research to properly post my GPS data. Using navilink > gpsresults v6 > uploding data to gps-speedsurfing.

Nice speeds, Alex! This would be a first if Dean's top speeds from April don't count for the monthly ranking. Although if he sailed on Sunday, he certainly was faster than I am. He just does not like to post anything below 33 knots or so.

Alsonoff, to make it easier on yourself, upload your results to ka72.com, and then click on the button "post to the GPSTC". KA72 does it all for you.

Anyway, congratulations on your 34 knots PB. That is faster than I have sailed!
