Used 6.6koncept 21cm 55d fin (didn't spin out today) 53cm board

3rd time unlucky at Soldiers cove, arrived to 20kt gusts and 17kt average, dropped considerably while Fangy and I rigged. Oaf arrived as Fangy launched, and Wazzabacktous a short while after. I needed 7km to get 37,000ks so decided to float around and try to clock them up.

Also suss out how it works in a WSW, turns out to be a great direction in the odd gusts I managed to plane on.

Fangy's blaming me for bringing along the 38cm speed board, but when it's forecast 27kts you can hardly expect me to leave it behind!

I've only ridden it twice, and this spot is very easy to get back to base if wind drops out.

No doubt there are protestations of innocence from Cap'n Calm. Believe none of them. The wind was showing every sign of building until Capn Calm ignored all sense of team spirit and gentlemanly conduct.

I generally enjoy the company of the Cap'n when sailing. However all camaraderie evaporated when he pulled out his speed board from the wagon. And ladies and gentlemen that was the end of the ball game. Huey packed and went home faster than a school teacher on the last day of term.

I should have followed suit.

Instead I pottered  around Soldiers Cove. Very slowly. On the upside I do now have a  pretty good mental map of the depth and layout of the cove should I ever manage to sail it in a decent breeze. The potential of the place is still a potent lure for me.

'Ken Oaf joined us on the surveying mission and provided advance technique lessons as per usual. This time it was, 'How to sail a completely submerged board'. Watching him was akin to watching a submarine slowly submerging beneath the waves and then slowly rising back up again, and slowly going down again, and slowly rising back up....you get the picture.

Wazzashaggersback didn't get his toes wet. Who would have guessed he would decide to trot commonsense when contemplating sailing? I suppose there is a first time for everything.

Not a top ten day, but ticking over 37 000k for the Cap'n is a great achievement. Congrats Mike :-)

Very impressive aggregate distance, Mike!

Looking at the numbers I am glad I didn't drive 10 times as far as I might have sailed to join you.

Sue, my longest run was 500m, so yes a fairly short course, but it's got a lot of other things going for it.
