Coal Point, NSW, AU Too rough for Steeevie, but Walshy you're an amazing sailor, I cant believe how you can sail that fast in that chop, and your mate is pretty good as well. Still was a nice sail earlier on the 7.8, ended up on the 6.2 with my arms stretched.

15-19kts NE Peel st Budgewoi Lake, NSW, AU

  7m OD - 89ltre falcon - 19 delta

 79ltre falcon - 25cms Chris lockwood weedie

 115xcross - 38cm makani weedie

Didn't enjoy the speedsailing today. The wind seemed to be mainly in the chop and I felt I spent all the time trying to get upwind. Hate those b deltas with a vengance! Yell Some swearwords going on out there today when it let go..Wasn't game to put any pressure on the stupid thing especially in the chop. Only did 2 bearawaya as after several tacks I finally got above the post and didn't want to lose too much ground..

Gybes were going ok.

I've always rigged the 7m on a 430 80%..Probably because for the first year that's the only Severne mast I had. I realised last sail that they recommend the 460cm so I used that today. Much better! It's 100% carbon so it was much easier gybing etc and the boom cam actually popped properly most of the time..Surprised Cool

I just didn't feel comfortable on the 89ltre so I got the poops and decided to try the 79ltre as the gusts felt pretty strong. Put the 25cm lockwood fin on ( I think its only 40 degrees?). Anyway I don't like it .I think it might be ok with a 6m sail or 5m but not enough for the 7m and when it did spinout it was much harder to correct. I stayed out in the chop more with that due to the depth.

It was getting stronger but gusty and more northerly so came in and got the slow freemove and had a ball! Smile Put a decent fin in it and went for long runs in the chop. Nice to trust the fin and equipment..felt fast but only c 23kts..

Lots out - Larko, Mick , Milsy , Mat ( later+ youngens) Alwyn , wayno, Paul , Pete , Michael , + some late comers..

Coal Point, NSW, AU. Strong NE 20-25 kts

Started off on CA70 with 7.0 Overdrive. Felt great. Bit patchy at the islands but plenty of wind. Changed to the Mistral Speed board. Which was a bit of a battle to sail over to the islands. Did quite a few runs over there, but it never felt that great - probably just a bit too choppy for it. It was a real handful sailing it back to Coalie through the 1 metre swell.  Walshy then let me try his Isonic 90. Just had one run over to the islands and back, so fast 32.6 kts. After battling my speed board the isonic felt lush and super quick. With some proper foot straps it could be the perfect board - Thanks Walshy.

Maui S2 7, Exocet RS2, select V max 33

WoW what a cracking day shame I had to go to work at 1 20pm.

Sailed up around the island and what a buzz coming down wind fully powered up on the 8.4 in chop.

by 12 30 blowing 25 so rigged the 7m and that was unreal putting the foot down for KM's how open and long the runs are, tops as seen by a very good Nautical in open water.

Loaned Alwyn my gps today on the proviso that he didn't beat me..despite pretty average wind and being underpowered he made 28.34kts..I reckon he could easily do 30kts in decent conditions.

Hey Sue, you shouldve been fanging on the 89 Falcon today. I was only on a 99 and 7.0 with a 19 fin and it was a ball. How long are your harness lines?? Looked a bit scrunched over?? Just curious as a Falcon sailor.

The harness lines are long ( adjustables up to 30 " although I have been fiddling so I'm not sure how long at the moment ).

The flats were higher up than usual for budgy and there was more 'chop' to negotiate. I just couldn't get comfortable and wasn't game to put any pressure on the fin. I just try and sink the leeward rail to stop spinout but couldn't get my act together yesterday.

I do scrunch up when I'm uncomfortable. I need a go pro to anaylse what I'm doing. When I'm comfy I stretch out and longer arms but overpowered or iffy I tend to go into survival mode with my front arm right up near the mast and more bent arms..

I'd like to compare that falcon 2008 with modern ones..it felt Rs yesterday.I found I felt better going to windward out of the rear strap as I could get my foot further over to sink the rail. I've extended the footstraps back with plates so they are closer together . I think that makes the spacing about the same as a modern falcon but I'm starting to think there are other differences as the board just feels too long and the straps too far back...Undecided. The 79ltre  feels great for my size.

I don't know if it's just my sailing isn't as good as last year ( pre injury)  as I was using a 7.8m on it last year , or I've raised the bar and want better results this year..Frown

Is your 19cm fin a Maui ultra delta ( have I got that right? ) or a custom one ? Whats the trick to being able to press on a small fin with a big sail..?

No its a cut down custom. Dont know any tricks, just has to have a great foil so you have got something to push against & its quick off the wind.

Never used a Delta, cant comment.

Hang in there Sue, I might have the solution for your fin problems. Just a bit more testing to be done and then I will cast a whole bunch of my 55 degree fins and send one over to you. So far they proving to be very spin out resistant and a lot more powerful lift than the Delta's so that should be the end of 'hunchback' sailing for you 😜😄

Wow Fangy! I'd love one..Tongue out Yep I think I sail a lot better with a decent fin ( so long as I'm not scared stiff when old hunchback comes back out..Undecided )

Don't hold your breath Sue, ( it will probably be winter) but when the next run of castings are done, I will send one over :-)

Thanks! Winter will be the best anyway as Budgy will probably be  choppy with the big W's.
