Nice WSW day with 20-25 knots. Not enough wind for the speed board so I went on the JP54 (70L) slalom and 5.8m Koncept. Good fun but it was proper speed angle so no good Alphas.
An unusual incident where I broke the tip of my mast about 20cm from the top. I wondered why the sail head was looking floppy and realised I had allowed the sail to flip in the wind on the beach. Must be more careful. The mast half broke where I had tried to patch a spot on the mast where there was a deep wear groove caused by the mast rubbing on a hard edge during transport. It just kinked about 20 degrees so i could sail back and remove the mast with the tip still attached.
I will have a go at repairing it with Carbon, but that mast oves me nothing as it was bought in 2008! KA 4m 100% RDM.
A quick change to another similar RDM and I was in business again. The interesting thing was that the other mast is 12.5% bend curve V's the 13.5% KA. The shape of the sail was slightly different, and the downhaul was almost 1cm more for the best set. Despite that, the sail felt and worked great.
The fin I used was too small upwind, but fine on the speed runs. It wasn't worth the walk back to change it though.
I took my old Isonic 50 for a couple of runs at the end but went no faster as the wind was less. I came in when the tide got too high and had to walk back as the the wind had eased to 15-20 Knots.
JP54 Slalom, Tribal 21 Weedspeed, KA Koncept 5.8m. GW60 GPS.
