sboardcrazy (24363km): 5-20kts + ESE - SSE Coal Point, NSW, AU 7.8m OD - 115 Xcross 75 wide - 38 makani weedie Well that was 'interesting.." I'd been watching the webcam all day and it varied from glas out to some patchy bits of 10- 13kts..I was itching for a sail so i went down expecting to be lucky to get planing. It was raining as I got there and the wind kicked in to a very patchy 10-15kts. Rigged the big kit and said to myself - Oh well at least I won't need to worry about being overpowered.. It had been blowing from SSE - ESE so cross chop and very lumpy. Headed out and it kicked in to about 20kts +..Whoa! cripes just kept in a straight line across to the slip. My rear thigh was killing me but I wasn't game to ease off. I have got to give a big thumbs up to the big freemove - + 50 over my weight 75wide in 2" + cross moguls and a soft ride and no control issues..very tiring though of course due to it's size. I'd usually be on my 79ltre with a 6m sail in those conditions.. I don't get to appreciate it's full fun as i use it as my 0-15kts board. It would be unreal for a heavier person in 20kts ..( and no I'm not selling it ). Stopped at the slip waiting for it to settledown which it did as the rain went over. Still strong on the way back but more comfortable. Turned around and headed back to wards Belmont and it came in with a vengeance..holy cr..p.. Survived and back to the shore again. Decided it wasn't going to die so set off for a b hary ride back to Coal. Bore off as much as I could in any lulls and full on survival mode - crouched down all the weight on the board not game to fully commit to the harness in case I got thrown over the front.Made it to Coal and was just going to wait there until it settled but a bit of a hole in front of Coal so managed to sail back to the ramp. Started to derig to rig the 7m ( it had died a little but I wasn't going to go out and get caught with the big sail again). Died to nothing so called it a day. Cripes I got the only wind all day.. One of those sails where at the time your hands were full but looking back what a buzz! Tired now..zzzz Pity the big board's so slow.. |
