117 iSonic, 6.2 (5.2) RRD Firewing, MANTA Foil

Foil session #4

Sneaky morning training before work, decided to try the race sail again. good for bottom end but the inabilty to 'switch off' the power like I can with a RAF was my undoing. Upon saying that my foiling time was significantly up on last time with a few touchdowns here and there but not nearly as many dismounts.

A previous harness hook scrape on the bottom monofilm panel finally let go on one of said dismounts, I proceeded to sail upwind towards the freeway and once the panel completely disappered I decided that was my hint to head back in. still foiling nearly all the way back.

Wasnt quite able to get the upwind height of the last few outings, partly as i was way overpowered once foiling (and paranoid about the sailing blowing out) but the track shows the potential.

Looks like you stayed up on the foil for the gybe, which looks very tight! No lack of maneuverability then. I guess the gaps in your tracks are crashes, or are you using a canmore?

Thanks Mike,

its very VERY flighty in the gybes, ease too much and you have liftoff! dont ease enough you trip over, its a good challenge.

The gaps are a combination of crashing (more frequent the bigger the hole in the sail grew. Plus a couple of times stopping to clear the foil from debris

DECREPIT - Just followed my track, sorry my Alpha was actually a TACK ! Semi Foiling tacks are pretty quick (and easy) board turns through the wind really easy and straight back onto the foil.

FIREIEBOB - the looks on the faces of powerboaters as you lift off in bugger all wind and fly straight past them will never get old.

EVETS - No full foiling gybes (yet ! ) got 3/4 the way through one and missed the footstraps as the board took flight again , D'oh!

Cheers Stroppo Cool Trying to find the time is the hard part, still its one more sail than i thought id get this week.

ELMO - make sure you pick a day and spot where NO-ONE else will be watching....They will all pull the piss out of your attempts at continous flight, until they have a go Tongue out  Eyes on the horizon and for Gods sake DONT try to waterstart....you will lose toes!
