Liptons, 110 isonic, 6.7 code red and my fantastic new decrepit 28 (thanks Mike)

I was first to arrive at Liptons today but was soon joined by Slasher,Mike and Toby. Very up and down wind today and no flat water however had a blast and got to use the new fin and the 6.7 for the first time instantly felt more comfatable

Lilacs ( Albany WA)

Mistral SL91 Tr16 5.9 Pepeweed 29

Great winter session. Shane and I agreed to look at launching from Seawolf and it worked well (although as the wind dropped I did have to walk in a bit)

Wind up and down and water cold when I crashed and got my head wet. Managed high 34+ several times in the session, highest speed was 3rd go ad a speed run, very choppy for Albany. Nothing like summer. Had trouble with tailwalking, moved mast so deck plate covered the slot, a lot better. When the tide dropped and the water was flatter I moved the mast back to the middle, that was ok for flat water. Must remember to try smaller fin on the 91 when I use <6m sails. A huge squall went through just before I packed up, unfortunately I was at the south end of the run so could not use it.

Mistral was excellent through the chop, definitely far more useable in non flat conditions then my JP54SP. TR16 5.9 had its maiden voyage today. Really pleased with it. Set well, was rotating nicely by the end of the session. Look forward to many sessions with it.

Hope the foot feels better soon Shane, you looked very well set up today.

The best bit wa that the sun came out several times so although the temp was low it was really nice being on the water. Car showed 13 C when I drove off, < 12C at the airport.

Wore shortie under my aging 3/2 steamer which has colander like characteristics. That worked really well. Still got wind chill on the arms but dingy jacket will address that when it gets colder.

Sorry Morts could not join us. I hear he was at work and saw us in the distance.

The NM felt like the fastest I had ever done, worked really hard for the speed, Often jumping over the back of the swell. At the end of the run (after the NM) I was fully lit, unhooked tand managing, just, to survive the chop. As I mentioned previously, these sessions are great to help me learn how good this venue is in the summer!

Tried to get to Liptons, for the early strong session, almost made it. Could barely hang on to my first run out, but by the time I hit the run the wind had backed off.

That was with the 5.4 koncept with the 48cm board and 20cm weedy. I'd started to rig the 5.8 koncept, but Slugger, on his first run out, got blown off the water. So I changed my mind and went for the 5.4. Didn't last long on that, sinking wasn't much fun, so changed up to the 6.2 on the 53 with 26cm weedy. Wasn't a bad combo only overpowered in the worst gust peaks, and could slog it in, in the lulls.

Johnski was out when I arrived, Slugger/Slasher was about to launch, but I beeped my horn at him before he could.

Toby arrived shortly after, and rigged up. Elmo, Fin, Firie and 'Ken also arrived but made various excuses to go back home.

Wind was very up and down, tide high so no smooth and not much semi flatish water.

I managed to catch one nice gust to get the peak speed, but the 5X10 tells the real story.

Pleased with the alpha, it was hard to get wind to last the whole distance. This one did it, but I needed to goes to hook in, which slowed my acceleration out a bit.

Had a couple of nice runs until i stepped on a cobbler. wasn't in the mood to sail after that so headed for the shore and watched Steve from the side line .

Peel Inlet, WA, AU  Patrik sl100, rrd f w 7m,31 tribal ws. then pat f race 120, 35 trib ws.

Headed down to mandurah mid morning suffering severe sleep depravation after having the grand kids stay round. Stopped in at fangys to find a couple of people groveling around and had a chat with Ross. You must be the massiah Ross with such powers of forgiveness.

So in search of more wind headed off to liptons. Didnt look that flash there so decided to rig a bit bigger than everyone else. As i rigged a big squal came through so I got a smaller board out. So On the next squal I headed out with Slugger who had changed to his 87 Isonic. BIG Mistake. We both managed to get a few half decent runs before it dropped off completely while we were way downwind. Slugger was stuck out near the channel and drifting north. I thought he might be heading off to fangland to appologise to Ross again. Anyway all ended well and the wind came up enough to get back. After a bit of a break the wind filled in and became alot more consistent. Took out the 120 and at last had a realy good time for a couple of hours. As it was obviuos I was going to get if not all but some of my jellybeans stolen today I was trying to throw in some good alphas and mike was doing the same in an attempt to keep at least one.

All in all not a bad day.

I had a really good sail today Cam, thanks again for opening me to the idea of sailing here in a westerly or south westerly. As the tide dropped the water flattened off but the wind also dropped. One day I will line up some wind and flatter water.

13 balmy degrees in Albantartica Surprised  Nice session there Steve - that's a super NM in choppy stuff!

Shane : OH CRAP!! - I feel your pain, it was years ago and I still remember it very vividly. Hope it starts to ease off soon...

Toby; are you sure Simon Scissorhands did not get near your sail?

Leading by example Cap'n and excellent team spirit John. I went down several times but decided study was a better option - that is it's warm and dry Smile

Swindy- given the conditions I am well impressed.Cool

Slugger; he is dead to me....

Fangy I was going flat chat, ignoring the personal safety gland which was objecting to the ridiculous speed over the confused chop. Result: a NM whch would normally contain an alpha here on a light wind day. It felt soooo fast :-(

So why do we wear GPS units: because I cannot judge speed based on the buzz or fear of a run. I suspect that is common to most people. Definitely proved this to me again today.

That is exactly why we wear GPS units. The runs which feel the fastest usually are not. Pity we can't measure the thrill factor.

That is a really good naughty for chop.

I wasnt allowed to shelter in sluggers van as you suggested because i didnt have my slippers with me and the baby spew on my shoulder may have messed up the soft furnishings.
