Great fun at Fangys, with the man himself, slugger/slasher, firie and when I came in 'ken was rigging.

Gusty up and down northerly so off shore at fangys, but there was the odd bit of water that wasn't too choppy with wind on it.

Went for the 53 board to get me through the lulls and the 5.8 koncept to handle the gusts. I showed firie 3 fins I thopught might work and he said "Go with the middle one" So for the first time in ages I used the 25cm @ 35 deg, as there wasn't much weed this worked well.

Used the extension strap on the watch for the first time. My lanyard adaption seems to work OK, well it wasn't tested for it's purpose, but it was comfortable and didn't get in the way.

Bit dissapointed in the watch visibility while sailing, isn't a great improvement over having it on the wrist. I'm going to have a look at the files now and see if the accuracy has improved.

Certainly at first glance looks like an improvement, it's no longer possible to pick the underhand runs from the overhand, and the SDoP values are much closer to the GW52, some runs they are a little better, some runs a little worse

Here's what the watch numbers are.

2s 32.097, 5x10 29.038, 1h 12.955, @ 15.391, NM 26.930. Distance was less because I managed to somehow turn the watch off before I entered the water. Didn't turn it back on until the end of my first run, that's what caused the hour difference as well.

Great sail with the owner and later the boss and Bob with Paul going out as we came back. Gusty conditions no chance in fine tuning the new sail but it felt GOOd!!

I also was a good slugger and not a slasher today!

big congrats to Morts on the Pb yesterday, CoolCoolCool

The Mr Whippy Van of Scissorhands promised to be on site at 10:30 this morning. He was spot on time, if you are a tradie who measures the time with a sun dial on a cloudy day.

I hung around waiting for  a soft serve with a Flake, but the greedy beggar ate them all on the trip over, and then palmed me off with a back pocket of the jeans soggy twix.  I was well unhappy. Siccorhands then he trotted out some bottles and tried to buy my silence. As I write, having just got through the first one, I am feeling that Doctor Coonawarra is doing a sterling job on my sore body, and I may even let Scissorhands off lightly for a day or two.

Or not.

Despite having to panic like an epileptic at a disco every time he came near me on the water, the two of us had a good, late morning session. Scissorhands managed to hang on in some monumental gusts and seemed to be going like stonk. It was great to watch and I am disappointed I wasn’t wearing my camera.

Firie turned up and debated with his reflection as to how good he looked in rubber. He lost. But he still went with a tasteful rubber ensemble that failed entirely in stopping his extremities going numb. It should be noted,  that all the rainbows only came out when he got on the water, so some deity must have thought he looked the part.

Captain Calm turned up and killed the breeze, which is what he does.

Despite the Cap’n talent for zephyrs, we all went out again, but the combination of a complete lack of fitness and my fragile ego taking a battering when all the featherweights kept blasting past me, had me heading for shore not long after.

Scissorhands came in and failed to get his coffee machine working, but tried to deflect the due criticism by winding out his Mr Whippy awning. And then wound it back in again. It was just poetry to watch. Not good poetry. More like rap done by a drunk Korean at Karaoke.

And with that Ken rolled into town and started flashing his pink sails around. I think they used to be red, but he goes so damn fast the colour just leeches out of them. He was still hammering when I left.

Top Ten Fangy Day…it seems like months since I last wrote that :-)

I have just started work on my ublox8 10hz logger and so I have to rely on my phone still, so no official numbers.

This the data from my phone;

2 sec - 32.102

10 sec - 30.664

Hour - 11.528

Alpha - 10.205

NM - 26.721

Distance 41.9km

Got the word there'd be wind but all I could see from home was cold and patchy rain, I was having trouble getting excited especially knowing I'd be wearing a rubber. Made the effort and was greeted with wind and happy chappys. I ended up having a great day even though some sailing in some rain. It was nice watching Scissor gliding under a lovely rainbow, I've never been to a gay mardi gras but I guess that's what it's like. Got my best speed on the end of my last run, funny how that works because my front arm had gone to sleep, no strengh and no feeling. Must have been the cold as my hand was blue, by the time I got feeling back the wind had droped, yay good excuse to give it away.

A top 10 Elmo Lumpy Goodness Day, sometimes they're the best. Nice speeds concidering lack of smooth Bra Boys, well done.

Carbon Art SL87, 27 Tribal, 6.6 Koncept and a worn rubber.

A great day out at Fangys. Saw the team packing up as I got there and rigged, had a little chat.  Then had the water to myself.

Had a really good time, sunshine and rainbows, lovely turquiose water over the sand near boundary island and some involuntary whooping and shouting.  Got a few really good squirts around the rain showers, which on the big board over the semi-choppy water felt very fast.

I think it may be a PB for me on this board, as I have been hoping to crack 35 for a while. I wonder how fast @lao shi has been on it?

Anyhow, still stoked, first sail in "ages" and just awesome to get out there.

Jonski, I'll see how I'm feeling, but Liptons could be fun if the 19kt southerly forecast holds.

Nice NM Firie, hard to get a gust to last the distance today.

Great stuff Paul!

If the wind hadn't looked like dying, I'd have gone back out with you, looks like that would have been a smart choice.

Nice one Mobsters! Feels good to see 30+ on the dial again doesn't it? Wind has been poo this month.

So the weed hasn't come back at Fangys yet?

Fangy I've got a Canmore that your welcome to use as I have the watch & GW52 now, it's the Green one so it's the faster variety of Canmore. I've got to be in Perth next Tues/Wed, so can drop it off if you like.

Fangy, you finished exams on Monday and got a sail on Wednesday. That is pretty good going. You must have a better connection to Huey than I do. I haven't had wind on a day off (or half day) for two months now.

Windxtasy - I can't quite believe the timing myself, but I guess good things come to the meek besides inheriting the earth :-) Sue - I have had some trouble get stuff sent across the Nullabor of late..... Morts - thanks heaps, but I had a green one. I need to go faster. Have you got one in that faded red colour that Strop likes so much? ( seriously, I am going well with my logger, so I should be fine) Weed - The tide was quite high today, so I can't really be sure, but I think the upper weed bank was having some effect. On past experience, weed doesn't show until spring. Stretch - you will be staying local right?

Nice board pb Paul, it's alway great to crack those little targets we set our selves. Great sailing and speed as I doubt the water was any smoother or more wind than we had, thumbs up Cool

If your hands were blue then I'm sure your aperture was pretty closed up too but that surely is a sensational exposure Firie. Only missing the unicorn!
