Melville Beach, WA, AU

Fun sesh at Melville in a pretty consistent westerly.

M137 + 7.6 TR9 + 38 Vector weedy

Pretty well juiced on this set up, but good speeds eluded me.  I would've been quicker on my 112, but it's in the repair shop at present, so I made do with the big M.

Nice to get a solid sesh in, my last two outings were short after-work missions that didn't really satisfy.

Heaps of crew out, and good to see a few familiar faces on the water Cool

First session since April 30 and what fun it was! It could only have been better if it was warm and sunny, and if I had managed to nail some gybes. The sailing fellright into place but the gybes have rusted over the winter. For once I managed to be there when the wind was at its best, fairly consistent and around 20 knots. The gear I rigged was just right and tuning felt good. Everything felt balanced, and I was powered up without being on the edge (much). I surprised myself by not leaving an important piece of gear at home, and remembering how to rig and tune. It helped that I must have used the same sail last time I used that boom, because all the settings were just right.

Pretty paultry numbers from me, but the wind dropped off after the rain came through and I decided that considering my lack of sailing lately it was probably better to stop before stressing the ligaments and muscles too much. It was great fun though, with lots of whoo hoo moments, just for the joy of being out there and zooming over the waves. It was good to catch up with lots of old buddies too, and see a good turnout of Pinnaroos.

More wind than expected, and reasonably consistent.

Managed a couple of planing gybes. Changed the rear footstraps to a single centre one after reading some Guy Cribb hints on sailing more easily, certianly was more easy; both on the back leg and also gettinginto the back footstrap. Not quite so fast, but more comfortable.

Great to see Anita back from Darwin, also Kenny.

Great location and good company with Lunny, Stroppo, Windsup, Oaf and Jonski. Trusty Tiga 275 today just going for distance an hr. What a place to sail lots of fun and really a great place for distance sailing, will be back with the favourite Tabou Rocket next month to really get the best out of HP. Everyone had a great time and it was great the Lunnster came to his sences and travelled down top day.

Was supppsed to go to Shoalwater but driving down the freeway i just got the urge to keep driving. Glad i did as it was pretty good with Boz and the Mandurah/Coastal crew.

Glad a few got out to melville too.

Rigged small expecting the wind to get ballistic like Wednesday. Started going for an hour and felt the wind steadily strengthen. On my way toward Alfred Cove I was nearly taken out by someone doing their downwind run near the 2 markers. Could have been disastrous if we collided. Seems to be a common thing at Lucky bay when there are a lot of people out. I think we all need to keep a better look out before doing speed runs.

Shortly after that spotted a kite board floating in the water on the sand bank so decided to take it to shore before someone collides with that. Difficult to do when you dont have a spare piece of rope. Finally got to shore and noticed that the wind had dropped off. Wind picked up again briefly and went out for a few more runs.

A mixed day but thankful to get away unscathed. Good to see Ricey, Cannonball and Captain back on the water.

Apparently I missed the best of the wind today but good to see plenty of others out there who had made the most of the not too wintery conditions.

At least I was able to keep planing for mosyt of the time. I was expecting the alpha to be in the teens.

A superb set of numbers Lunny. Those numbers would put you in the running for Fangy's trophy again if you had scored them at Coodanup.

I am looking forwrad to the story. Too much wildlife at Shoalwater?

Whoo hoo! I do like seeing the Pinnaroos in number one spot. #1 for 2 sec, 5X, nm nd distance. Well done Boz and Lunny! You two are becoming an awesome duo. Lunny, from what Swindy said, Birchmont was a much safer place to be as there was a lot of "wildlife" at Shoalwater.

Well done Lunny & Boz. Great effort today.

I didn't see any mermaids around but there was plenty of prey swimming around out there. Being on sinky gear I didn't want to be left swimming in between the islands and being mistaken for a big fat sealion.

Hey Cannonball, next time you come south let us in Busselton (OneMoreKnot) know and we can all get out for a session. It would be nice to have a few visitors to sail with in the Geo Bay & Augusta.

Cheers Dave
