Overall a pretty cruisey sail with the odd lull and the odd ridiculous gust for the boad/fin choice.

A good half dozen out, wasnt overly cold either with the steamer & thermal rashy.

Great to see Ricey & Ken out too.

Started about 10am and sailed in on-off, rain-sun conditions but very pleasant. Managed one proper planing gybe.

Got off just after the westerly front hit with a vengance. Actually quite hard to get off because the wind shift meant sailing almost downwind well overpowered in very large chop. Even Lunny said it was scary! Ken turned up just after the big front.

Got down midday to meet Lunny and Ricey who just came in after a big squall. Typical winter wind so went with the big board small combo. Got caught out near Majestics in a big squall so waited on near the shore. Unfortunately once it passed the wind swung SW and gradually dropped but just got back before the wind dropped off completely. Still good to get out for a blast despite all the rain.

Good going guys. Increased all our scores (which was never going to be a challenge but you have to get out there). Awesome distance for the conditions Lunny. A big day out.

I finished work just as the rain came pelting down with the SW change at about 2.30, decided it was going to be wet and miserable and chickened out.

Good job on getting out today guys didn't always look that attractive. I will be finishing work in the CBD about 3pm tomorrow so looks like I will give Melville a go if someone could let me know where you launch from and if there are any obstacles to avoid? I have never sailed on the river before.

Jonski - Launch from adjacent to the carpark at the intersection of Cunningham St and Melville beach road. The only obstacles that are not obvious are shallow water - the water over the sand bar about 500m out may be getting low late in the afternoon. There are a couple of posts marking the shallowest part.

Wind tends to be gusty - as a rule a bigger board for the lulls and a smaller sail for the gusts works best
