Speaks Bay, TAS, AU Sailed Midway point [chicken run] this morning and Speaks Bay thisarvo. Never heard it called that before, I thought it was the neck at south arm or bottom end of ralphs bay. Anyway it was a wild ride down there, a lot rougher than I thought it would be. Fanatic 91 and Hot GPS 6.0

Pitt Water Causeway, TAS, AU iSonic 97 and Overdrive 6.2 at Pittwater and then sailed iSonic 86 and Ovedrive 5.7 at South Arm.

Not that windy at Pittwater when we were all rigiing, but did have that feeling that it would come in!  Chose bigger gear (97/6.2) to do the 1hr and got pummelled for most of it.  Most of it was sheeting out just trying to keep the board in the water.  A few flat spots through the chop where I beared off a few times and got my 2-second peak of 36 knots!

Saw Steve going for it and then crashing in the chop at full-speed (at 38+ knots).

Tried a NM, but ended up only being 26 knots!

Wind was crazy gusty at this stage, so went to South Arm for the first time in a Northerly.  Absolutely howling and onshore, so rigged the 86L and 5.7m.  Soon after hitting the water the wind dropped, but still got some good runs in.  Nothing over 35 knots, but managed a 30 knot NM.  Lucky to get this spot on a high tide, or may not have been as good as it was.  Not ideal for top speed, but good for 1hrs and NM.

All in all a good day's sailing!

Howrah, wild sail on FSW gear. Near 40 knots at times with a sharp chop. Hard work getting the board over 30 knots!

Congrats on the PB Tim. Speaks Bay hey, well never heard of it. I think we should call it Tims neck or Gales South Arm. You are sailing there more than most and your idea to sail in there in that N/NW direction. Like Dave said I dont think the big speeds are possible but great for everything elseCool

Thanks Steve, is great to get an hour starting with a "2". I need to get much fitter, I was able to sail crosswind at 23-26 knots for periods today but found it physically difficult to keep it up. Also wasn't dialed into the gybes today - only made 2 gybes in the hour (usually I'm hardly dropping them)!

Dylan added a location of "Speaks Bay" after I meantioned to him that all my tracks from South Arm neck were being assigned to "Goats Beach" - i.e. wrong side of the neck! Speaks Bay is what Google Maps calls the northern side of the neck, so maybe technically correct but possibly not in common usage - "South Arm neck" could be an alternative, does this need a "captain's call" by Dave?

Well done on the 20 knot 1hr Tim, great effort, especially in those conditions! I reckon South Arm Neck would be a better name for where we sailed, as then everyone knows where we're talking about. Can you see if Dylan can change it?

Dylan has agreed to change the name from Speaks Bay to South Arm Neck.
