Wednesday 22nd November – windsurfing *** The Manor, Felixstowe – sunny and mild

25.32 kt. max, 23.56 kt. ave., 6.75 kt. hr., 22.60 kt mile, 22.60 km., 14.84 kt. alpha.

With the temperature at 14 degrees and sunny it was just a case of finding a venue. With the wind forecast to be SSW between a helpful 20/40 range, that’s the weathermen being ultra-cautious! My first-choice venue would have been Point Clear but tomorrows direction suits it better so decided to stay local. Neil Hurrell, Roger Vickers and I agreed to go to The Manor which offers a nice beach to launch. I took Mag down at about 9.30 so she could walk back along the prom and for me to put a board on the beach to try and keep a groyne free from sea anglers! It didn’t look that windy on the water and with the wind side shore, the SSW wind failed to arrive and getting an accurate reading on the gauge was difficult. On the sea wall it was gusting 20/30 mph so I decided on a 6m with 115lt. but it looked light so I quickly rigged the 6.5 as well with Neil and Roger going for 5.7, with newly arrived Michael Galbraith going for 5m. The sun was now fully out and a balmy 14 degrees so went for the Autumn wetsuit which was fine even with the water being a bit chilly and sailors sailing barefoot were getting very cold feet! I was first out and the 6m was OK just powered up which is all you need in the lumpy sea! I had a run out to Wadgate Post making a 25 kt max with my months best mile on the way back. We were joined by Andy Mexome who had also rigged 6m as the wind dropped, this turned out to be the story of the day with the wind being up and down. When up the sea was a bit of a lumpy mess. Chris Stephens arrived also om 5m and with the wind lighter I had a few runs with the 6.5 and marginally increased my top speed but going fast was next to impossible! Paul Smith, Nathon Cozens and Mark Swain had arrived making it a good turnout:) I had a few more runs with the 6m but it was up and down with a messy sea so backed up. I took a few pics before heading home. I hope to get to Point Clear tomorrow before the really cold weather returns:(
