Leighton Beach, WA, AU

It's been three months since my back surgery, and after a couple of sneaky seshes on the SUP + 5.7 (whilst teaching my boys to windsurf) and a short sail on Wednesday this week in nuking conditions at Peli, I felt like it was time to post again.

Late arvo mission to Leighton, to catch the light seabreeze on offer.  It was 12-15K when I arrived around 4.30, so I went large...

Patrik Formula + 12m R3 + 70 K70.

Breeze was a bit fresher offshore, around 15-17K, which was fine going upwind, but a bit of a handful downwind, so after a short sail on this set-up I went in to change down...

Mistral 137 + 9.0 Titan + 48 Volt.

By the time I got back on the water it was 6.30, so I only managed a couple of runs before it shut down, but the slalom combo felt like wave gear after the hanging off the 12m beast!

Fun little mission, and I pulled up OK, so I think I'm good to go Cool

Coogee

after an early finish on a Friday it was nearly manditory that I got a sail in Wink

was on the water at about 3:15 and it was very light for at least the first half of my sesh with just a few bigger puffs coming through every now and then

was able to stay on the foil and have a good time despite it being a bit soft, however the wind had a bit of fun with me by booting in after I had done a good job of wearing myself out

Darryl got on the water late just a bit after the wind kicked in but he came out with big gear too which made things interesting because we were both probably as best setup as we can work out for the moment for some coarse racing, we did a few laps of up and down the bay together but it didn't take long to see the difference between us. He had ALOT more pace than me upwind of which I had no answers for but I could edge him back slowly once we started going downwind

makes me motivated to try find some extra pace upwind because it was made pretty clear today that what I can do at the moment won't cut the musturd on the race track should I find myself there in the future

all up though a very nice afternoon on the water, thought I would go around woodies for a change of sea state and a bit of training which was great to practice in the swells around the corner, the foil is actually super nice to sail even in the bigger waves

Might have to sail downwind next time to visit the boys at leighton WinkTongue out

not many jibes on the foil today but got one in for the alpha

all tired now but pretty happy with the day Smile

7.7 warp, 135 JP HF, NP F4 foil with the big wing

Great to hear you're faring ok, Pointy. I read 12m and thought you might have jumped ship and taken up kiting!! Relieved to see you haven't Cool good to see you back, man!

Welcome back, Pointman! You have made good progress after such major surgery. Hard to believe it has been three months already though.

We look forward to more posts from you.

Good to see you back Greg :)

Sean, looks like you covered some ground, we will have to do a round the sound run soon.

Nice tracks Sean - what wind speed do you need to foil with that setup? Good one Greg - I should have come down!

Thanks guys, it’s great to be back on the water 😊 Nice tracks Sean. Is there some interest in foil racing in Perth? I can really see the appeal after wrestling the 12m yesterday, Formula gear is so heavy & cumbersome 😕

As I was sailing yesterday before I was worn out I was just thinking how much fun it is actually to sail upwind on the foil and that it actaully isn't much extra fun to go downwind which is really nice

Darryl- long trips are definatly going to great fun on the foil with the way you can cover so much ground so quickly, I'm keen for a few big runs

JJ - depending on how I set it all up on that combo I can get going in around the 10 knot sort of area, but once up and going the foil is quite happy to sail around in 8 knots until I need to tack or jibe

Pointman- glad to hear your recovery is going along good, I still have all my formula gear and despite really loving it all I have to be honest that I haven't been interested in using it since I got my new foil, there are quite a few guys getting into the foiling around perth now and slowly there are a few of us that are starting to get good enough and confident enough to race, I'm keen to do some racing I know Darryl is too and I think there would be a couple of other guys that would be pretty interested, we have been invited to join the kite foils at jervous bay sc which sounds like a compelling option but there are options on the river too such as mounts bay sc has made hints that we might be welcome with the moths there

will have to see how things shape up in the new year Laughing

fyi a powerful foil would go quite well in your formula board Wink
