Kyeemagh, NSW, AU 10-18kt NE || 118 Manta, 8.6OD, 46T-Lab

It blew from quite early morning which was good cause it co-incided with low tide and less traffic on the water. Patchy but a little better than forecast. Berowne and Remi also in attendance.

Kyeemagh, foiling away with surprisingly few sailors.

Wind was shocking! Literally 2 to 18kts...

I got overtaken a few times... found out later the guys were on 130's and 8 or 8.5m sails.... while I was testing out a positively tiny 6.3! And still got massivley overpowered, and annoyingly underpowered too.

My main goal for today wasto  improve gybing, which I managed to do. Wow, 15kt alpha, not bad for my foil! Best gybes might have been foiling the entire way (just) while most of my completed gybes ended 'on' the water, but still with positive lift from the foil, so assisted planning. These are pretty comfortable and not such a bad compromise technique actually.

TRXI 6.3.

Oh and I tried the slingshot mounted more forward on the switch-blade. Didn't seem to help, just made the footstraps feel way to far back.

It's fun watching the gybe tracks evolve on the KA72.com site!  https://www.ka72.com/Track/t/325286

QUESTION. Today I ran a 46cm light wind slalom fin (has quite a wide tip for early planing) with the abovementioned combo (Manta being 75cm wide). I noticed when powered up and trimming along,there was some tendancy for rounding up into the wind. This was even without applying too much back foot. With some effort I kept this under control, but probably more effort than you'd want. (btw apparently no problems with too much lift. Hence a question for the experts. Was I over-finned?

Why rounding up into the wind. I know this can happen if your fin is way too small which I'm quite sure isn't the issue here. Maybe the fin simply has too much upwind ability for the combo/conditions?

Andrew,

Not really sure, but maybe try sitting in the harnes harder to push the nose down (and away) more... or slide hands back down the boom a bit (3-5cm) so you hold the sail further forward...?

Thanks Berowne I'll give that a go. That's a nice alpha btw for the foil 👍
