Chch estuary. Good solid session on the slalom gear. Plenty of traffic and chop. Found a little bit of flat water. Constantly checking through my sail. Dont want to mow anyone down. Outright good fun. FF 79 R7 6.2 C3 34. Mykz 29

Christchurch Estuary, NZ. ..Tabou 108, 7.0 NCX and 40cm Black Project fin. Followed by Falcon 90, 7.0 NCX & 34/5 Select fin. Had a great sail on both boards.

..I'd really like to be pleased with the A ..its the very first time I've bust 20 knots after trying for a year or more. Problem is I was wearing two GPS's and the other one has called the Alpha a whole 1 knot less at 19.199 knots. Since I view the Alpha as mostly a battle against myself and am concerned with the real number its a bit troubling.

Its my Locosys watch that has produced the 20.225 Alpha, I had it set to 5 Hertz.  By contrast my aviation biased GPS records at 1 Hertz, but also monitors the Russian GLONASS chain - I noticed just before I switched it off that it was using 16 satelites.

Nice Alpha Pete.

The variation will be satelite signal.

I had a 21.35kt best on GPSAR but GPSSS got it at 20.6 and KA72 at 19.77.

Checking the trackpoints file in GPSAR I see that the satelite signal wasn't perfect thoughout the manouvre and had some signal drops.

KA72 won't accept any and it appears that GPSSS are a little more tolerant with their filter settings for Aplha than KA72.

GPSAR give you all the data.

Good program, keeps me honest!

PS.....I had my GPS inside my wetsuit, therefore dropped signals. Particularly in a manouvre like a gybe.

They say it is also likely with the watch on the wrist and where the watch goes during the arm movements.

The Aussies have found that the best place for GPS is in the lining of a helmet. Very clear signals here.

Thanks for your reply Mike, I've just found the GPSAR site and will figure out how to use it later.

..What I did last night was submit my Locosy watch data to KA72.com under my name as normal, then to make the comparison and so as not to confuse the situation I submitted the data from my aviation GPS to KA72 anonymously. So ultimately it was KA72.com came up with the two different figures.
