First session for 2018, Boardhead at Boardman! EVO8 6.4 RDM SP90 Replica Vector Volt 33 GW60

Been getting jealous of all the great sessions at Lake George and Lilacs down under so invoked the 100 rule today. If air and water add up to 100 it's sailable...air was 62F and water 41F so time to get wet. Headed east to Boardman for a nice 25 knot breeze and long runs around 2 miles. First time out for 2018 in the Gorge, never sailed this early before so a good chance to wake the beast from hibernation. Stunning drive with the Gorge in all its green majestic glory and lots of snow on Mt. Hood...gotta love this place.

YES, Roo is back on the water!! Laughing

Strikes me that the 100 rule is a bit arbitrary and pushing it a little. But for someone that is never in the water it is obviously doable Laughing.

There's a actually a bit more to today's story. On my last run out, had decided to pack when I got back, I ended up spending half an hour in the water after the rig sank, was over on the Washington side as the wind picked up, nearly 2 miles from launch. Had a hell of a time getting waterstarted and no chance of rescue. Hands were a bit cold when finally got going again but decided to bin the session after I got back to the beach. Only time I fell all day. Had thermals under the 5/4 westsuit and hood so pretty toasty! Note to self fit an uphaul next time. No one else out and no boats, lucky the polar bears didn't get me.

Roo you'll probably hate me for this, but when in Albany, after sailing along a 2 km stretch of dead flat water, the Lilacs magic carpet ride, while verbally exchanging the thrill of the run with my partner in crime Sammy the Snail, I noticed the water temp was warmer than the air temp, so I laid down in it to warm up a bitEmbarassed

Gee, decided to bin the session after spending only half an hour in the 41F water due to light wind, you think?! Laughing As you know, I would have been freaking out of my mind long before half an hour was up. Yes, sometimes uphauls are useful Embarassed

Glad you made it back! Makes me once again appreciate the completely benign conditions of Lac Bay!!

Wasn't light wind, was f&^%ing strong with big waves breaking over the rig!

Yes Hardie I do hate you for that, not the warm water but the 2km of flat!

Ah, my mistake. I just assumed uphauls are for light wind. Guess they are also good for keeping connected with the rig when you are getting hammered Surprised
I correct my previous statement about me freaking out long before 1/2 hour is up to me freaking out in about a minute Embarassed.

When it gets warmer you'd love it Barton. Long, long runs and nice grassy area to rig on next to a nice hotel with beachside bar/restaurant. Just like Bonnaire!
