Surprisingly good session in very lttle wind. Used the AHD 'door' Formula board with 44 Iwi fin and it went in very little wind. Haven't used the 'door' in the estuary before as, in the day,  it usually had a 9.8m sail and a 70cm fin and wouldn't clear the estuary bottom. It works ok with the much smaller 44cm Iwi fin. The Foil would have been good today also.

Christchurch Estuary, ..had a really nice sail despite the wind being a bit light. ..Tabou 108, 7.0 NCX, and Select 44 worn down to about 40cms - more powered up on that fin than on my sail.

Your Foiler rides a lot smoother than that wet bike, bouncing about all over the show!

Sail and foil power rule for sure in that video, no doubt about it.

..

Thanks for the seabreeze link Mike, I read all the way through it. ..I'll explain what I've been doing with my GW60 so far. When I got it out the box I set it to 5 hertz and have maintained that setting to date. When we went to Greenpark it logged 47,547 points. Last night (Wednesday evening) I was sailing in the estuary/river until sundown and the watch logged 46,204 points. So my belief is that every time I have sailed with it the watch should have logged the absolute maximum number of points possible because I also set the Speed Genie function to "0" out of the box.

My thinking is that the maximum number of logged points should produce the most accurate speeds overall, and for comparison my GW60 is quite consistently producing speeds that are very close indeed to the data from my aviation biased GPS which records data at 1 Hertz, but also benefits from monitoring GLONASS so potentially sees twice as many satelites - Last night as I came in the aviation kit was showing 21 satelites in use and claiming accurate to 6 feet.

For comparison, last night my GW60 produced an "Alpha" via KA72.com of 18.282 knots and my aviation GPS also via KA72.com produced an "Alpha" of 18.188 knots - so 0.094 of a knot difference. Somewhat astonishingly both pieces of kit produced exactly 17.822 knots for the nautical mile, and also 13.803 versus 13.808 knots for the hour.

As these GPS's have competely different operating systems, and one is on my wrist , the other on my upper arm the latter figures seem remarkable. ..I did already mention to you the only alarming anomaly that I have seen - the occasion my GW60 scored one of my Alpha's at 20.225 knots whereas my aviation gps scored it at 19.199 knots. On balance I have to think the latter figure is more likely the most correct.

At this point I should admit that I don't have a good understanding of the overall operation of the GW60 watch, it is damn complicated, but as far as I can tell I am not doing anything that could corrupt the data logging. I don't push any buttons at all between turning the gps on and off to sail, and I don't even look at it when I am sailing or when I come back ashore, I simply upload what I believe is the maximum possible loggable data to KA72.com and see what it comes up with as a surprise. Same goes for my aviation GPS.

In the Seabreeze blog/table I note the author is recommending settings for the speed genie function , my preference is not to activate the speed genie function as I suspect it has significant potential to corrupt KA72's interpretation of some speed data - especially Alpha's. I also think I've seen an indication along those lines at ..https://gps-speedsurfing.com

Overall I think the watch is great, rather marvellous that it logs 5 positions and speeds a second and that would be far and away impressive enough for me, unfortunately it seems like too many cooks have been allowed to interefere with it, make it ludicrously complicated and susceptable to data corrution for fancy add on programmes like speed genie. The option to set 5 Hertz or 1 Hertz is also bound to create issues for some fella's who are actively competing against each other.

That's very similar data from your 2 units.

I wasn't questiioning the settings re data , just thought these settings may allow you to see your data as you are sailing?

Speed Genie only affects the data displayed to the screen. It is a re-set speed at which the data display is renewed.

So if it is set at ie 22kts then it will renew the display when you drop below 22 kts.

At Greenpark for example I set it at 30 kts.

At your 0 setting it won't reset until you stop.

Better to set at 20 or so for the estuary.

Windy at Lake Clearwater this weekend and for the next week.....yipppeee!!!

On a different note it would seem I may be able to compete with you Mike on more or less equal terms if you sail a door and I sail my Tabou Laughing ..or at least on the estuary
