Speed Creek. Tauranga, Bay Of Plenty, NZ. Day 2!

What an even better session than the previous day!!! Epic fun. Perfectly fat waters behind that sand bank. Great runs. Even out to the midle of the harbour on the odd occasion.

Absolutely love the 8.6m Severne R8 Overdrive on the Isonic 145l combo. Even put in the spanking new Fully carbon 44cm fin. Thats a massive step down for me from my usual 52cm in this board! Worked amazingly.

Couple of random gus showed up and joined in. But out with us was Curtis and Terry. Oh and Max for a bit.

Wicked times. Sun. Wind. Water. what more can you ask for.

Hi guys, I lived in Tauranga back in the early eighties and started sailing there. I used to sail in the eastuary and surfed Matakana (sp?) island so I know the area quite well. I'm just interested to know where the sand bank is you guys sail.

Nice speeds with big gear. Smile

Sulphur point and the marina probably werent built up then but if you know where kulim park is head towards town on harbour drive. when you get to the sharp right hander at the end go straight on and your in the water. Launch point opposite side to the left a few hundred meters. Good for a couple of hours either side of low tide. Been too long since ive been back for a visit.

Hey Roger, thanks for the explanation. I may have sailed from there, Yes Sulphur point was there when I started in '82 in fact we used to park and launch there . Also sailed Kulim park.

We used to ride our dirt bikes at Sulphur point when it was under construction in the late 70's. I haven't been back since I left in'85. I believe it's unrecognizable.

Yip spot on, sulphur point launch spot is close to the recreational boat ramp close to the rail bridge its effectivly a outlet for the estury that runs between the city and Matua. There is a sandbank built up between the inlet and Kulim park that creates a sand bank. Its very gusty short run and hit miss, we go there when there are isnt any water anywhere else or we might be hoping for some speed related sessions. Otherwise we sail Ferg/Kulim Park or in front of the Airport depending on the directions and tides. If you end up coming back let us know and we can hook up for a sail.
