Determined to get a sail in over the weekend with Sunday being my only free day- thought GI may have been the best option (& by the looks it sadly was). Went to the top of the Island on arrival to check out the conditions... Wind seemed to be a little light on... Watched Dr Cam for the next 5 minutes or so blasting around here, there & everywhere off into the horizon...
The phone then rang- B1 was on the other end of the line... Deep discussion took place with the hot topic being sail choice for today's session- glad I finally made the decision to rig the Severne OD 8.6 with Futura 122 & BP 42.5~ launched from the top of the Island. The first 45 mins or so seemed quite promising! Then the wind dropped, then dropped some more, then almost disappeared! Ended up being lots of light wind waterstart/planing practice for the next 2 hours or so. I reckon the wind range was somewhere between 15kn~5kn throughout the sesh... Was wanting to rack up some k's today, but that was almost impossible with the wind conditions. Found it super hard to get/keep upwind!
Soooo much sea life present today!~ turtles, rays, baitfish, bigger fish, reef sharks... Watched a baby shark nearly beach itself on the top corner of the Island (of course I nicknamed him "Doby" ). Then saw Mumma shark shortly afterwards in the shallows... She would have been at least 1.5m
Did a knee slam on the board when slipping during a gybe attempt... bit tender now...
Even though I was found wanting much more today, guess I can't complain too much... (did you hear that Wind Gods!)
While Dr Cam & I may have missed each other in transit on the Island (Cam on the early sesh, me on the later), I think we somehow got the best of what was on offer locally...
