Melville Beach, WA, AU

woke up with flu/cough/high fever... kids have had it for 5 days so far- but no way I was going to miss a summer westerly. Rigged for limp mode- new 5.5m and 137 with 33spw.

Pretty gusty and very shallow so had to be careful where I went. There were some nice patches of wind and flat water- probably because it was really shallow. Found the bottom on one of my last runs- 39.2kts and boom!... its superman dredging a channel with the hip. oops. Nice to see some 40s on the big board again, and great to share a PB session with the other guys. Yes it was quite a good melville day. Not sure how I managed that many kms when I could barely make it down the stairs this morning... I guess sailing is a pretty good cure for thinking about feeling cr@p.

Impressive effort especially considering you had the flu, but at least it gave you an excuse to take a day off work...

thx guys, pretty destroyed still. Was 40C last night when I went to bed. Fever just goes and goes for days. Prob shouldn't have got wet but... nah :)

82cm board with 5.5m wasn't exactly the optimal combo but I really did want to rig for minimum effort and figured I wouldn't get as tired using a smaller sail. The bigger board was the logical choice since it can make up for the underpowered bit to a degree. And the inevitable grovelling with the small sail would have burnt me out fast on a smaller board. Ideal combo probably 7.1m on the speed 95 or 112 seeing as it wasn't super windy (just very flat in the shallows!). But no way I could have held onto that for more than a few runs.

Stoked to get on the new 5.5m though. being sick was a good excuse to use it.

Great effort Chris. Bit of a tricky situation you’ve put yourself in there, man flu is a very serious issue however going sailing may have compromised sympathy from the better half? 😁 (100% worth it of course!)
