Stansbury, SA, AU 15-25+ WSW

RS2, Evo5 5.4, choco 28 weedy

Straight off-shore, gusty with lots of holes in it. I have not sailed in a while so today was good enough to try the Evo 5.4. Last time i used it i was having trouble with cam rotation, i cut 4mm off 3 batons and she is sweet. The sail has a different feel to the HSM GPS ones, it likes to stay locked in and drives itself off the wind. At speed off the wind, when i want to head up i normally just heel the rail and beat tight but this sail holds its line and needs a long runway to slow down. Just going to take some getting use to. Gps said 36.7 so well pleased with that. Thought i was in an episode of Return of the Mummy when a huge dust squall had me holding the gear down for 5 minutes. You can;t sail in to the launch spot on this wind direction so the 200 meter walk in did not wipe away the smilesSmile

Cheers

Largs Bay, SA, AU. 15-35+ knots. Crazy overpowered in big swell. Lots of rests to let my wrist and hand muscles recover. Not my cup of tea. Wave gear (4.2, 85 board). First sail is a while. Hopefully will sail Boggy tomorrow and Sunday.

Hi hop!! I found that mast choice was critical in the EVO5 5.4. I switched from a NP RDM 400 down to the 370 mast and it helped a lot. With cam rotation and overall feel. Also downhaul aswell, very fine line from either making the sail feel great or a struggle.

Thanks for the info Izaak. I rigged it on a X9 RDM 370 this time out compared to a 400 RDM HSM last outing. I set the boom height in the middle of the cutout and set the downhaul until the cams rotated. She sets pretty flat with floppy top.  A couple of runs on the flat felt so comfortable.
