Rusty,gusty day down the pit.

Guessing there was some good 35 knot plus gusts swinging around a lot, mainly a bit too west though.

Heaps of crew turned out - great to catch up with old friends.

I should get out more often...

BRUTAL.....

On the water at 9am with sunshine and about 25 kts of w to wsw . Big sail , small board time.

Wind went from lots to nil with the rain squalls making it interesting sailing and bloody cold if you were on the wrong side. The track was rough with the swell lines coming from the north. (Just weird) Too much west.

Had two big offs and got rag dolled as the fin let go. Ouch. Time for a smaller sail and bigger fin.

Back with the old but trusted Ka/Loc 21.5 Assy and immediately went faster and with better control but suffered with no enough power. Then the wind kicked in Surprised. I don't walk back often but today I did lots and it was hard work. The track even got better despite the tide now racing in and by 3pm I was cooked.

Lots of sailors out today (20) including 2 beginers who didn't go out after much advice. (We wouldn't rescue them) One had sailed 3 times Surprised

Wind gusts got close to 50kt. So nearly an epic day but not quite. More water play all weekend Tongue out

Sandy Point, Vic.

Fantastic wild day. We had everything from SW to West. While we were rigging it was perfect angle and sand streaming off the dunes. I think we all missed that. Then the wind eased and started swinging around a bit. Hard to get a good run. Plently of 38's but no 40's. Had a really wild squall come throught at direct West. 35-40 but chop over a foot high down the bank. After that the wind died right back but soon started to build again and went back WSW eventually. I was  experimenting with a different mast and radically different set in the 5.2m Koncept. It looked good in the beach, but it didnt feel that great and I could not get any speed out of it. So in the Lull I walked back and picked up my already rigged 4.7m, which was a lot quicker and easier than rerigging the 5.2m on the standard mast. The 4.7 was looking fantastic anyhow and I wanted to try it.

Just after the tide bottomed out. the wind swung back to WSW, the water went flat and it was gusting over 30Kts. Perfect timing for the 4.7m Laughing

The first fully powered run was fantastic. Sail felt great and speed was there. Had peak of 43.3 for nearly a second. But no speed on the GW60 which had run out of battery. None on the GPS-Logit phone either which I think is kaput from getting damp when the catch sprung on my armband holder. Just as well I had two GW-52's in the helmet! Tongue out

Had three more runs over 40, but was flying blind now so didnt know that until I got home.

I lot of sailors there thoday, coming out of the woodwork! Great to see. Quite a few of the visitors gave up just before the conditions go good. You need measured patience to get a good result here sometimes. Undecided Most of the PiT Crew were there to the end, when the tide was rushing in. The wind was gusting to 40 and the angle was good with flat surface, but the inrushing tide was creating whoopdedoos and making it hard to get speed again. Besides being completely stuffed, it was time to get out to beat the tide anyhow.

Walking back towards the end I saw Ado coming down the course just as a 35+ knot squall hit. Yeeharring as he sped past and disappeared in the cloud of sand. That was a good one! Cool He was on the front of the squall and it just got stronger as I stood there. Smoke on the water and sand to head level. Definitly over 40 for a minute or two then! Two hands to hold onto the sail!

Fantastic to see most of the old PiT crew and some new ones out, and the Mallacoota chapter going hard.Cool

More days like this please! Tongue out

CA40, Tribal 16.5cm assy, and 2019 KA Koncept Proto at first. Best runs on 2019 KA Koncept speed 4.7m CA40 with 18cm Tribal assy. 16.5 was too small today. 18cm made quite a difference.

Sandy Point, Vic, AU It was great to meet and watch some of the Pit Crew sail, it was very humbling. These guys have got it so wired and i enjoyed watching as much as sailing. Thanks to Isacc for the ride down and Craig Cole for the free mast baseWink

Great day guys. Well done on the PB's. I was so keen to drive down but didn't have the free time. Looks like I would've needed something smaller than a 5.8 anyhow. Very mellow here at Primbee.

It was really tough Dave.  The dunes are having a big impact now and the wind is really gusty and moving around a lot, its very hard to locked in and get comfortable. It,s also hard to get going, lots of dragging which tires an old unfit bugger like me. On a couple of runs it was such a struggle to get past the dunes that I was spent by the time I got in the straps.  Spotti and I were both saying that if the run was like is was 10 years ago the team would have been pumping out high 40,s yesterday.

Need to enjoy it while it is still sailable, won't be long before it is not.  Any one got contacts with the US airforce...time for a Napalm strike to get rid of that weed.
