Unknown Location. Posted on KA72, check for tracks if interested as its a new spot.

Cowrie Cove, Dampier, Burrup Peninsula, New spot = best so far for slalom boards and speedsailing, 25kts, some stronger gusts, half metre waves but 100m furrows of dead flat between the waves, first decent run on Cam;s new/used 2013 iSo 80, sanded a fin’s base for an hour to get it to fit, only to get to the beach and was unable to find it?Yell  Used 6.3m TR9 and 21/40 weedy.

The Search:

On Wednesday I enlisted a member of the Karratha 4wd club to escort me to a spot I found on Google Earth which looks like a sand spit and Mangrove area. It's called Ankatell Point, Antonymyre, between Cleaverville and Wickham, worth Checking on google earth and google images.  Very rough rough  track to get there, I'm thinking this better be worth it Surprised then you get to a salt water creek which gets fairly deep at high tide, and the 4wd Club member said deep salt water crossings are very bad for 4WDrives and causing corrosion and not worth it, so never got there Yell.

Today went to look at King Bay first.  Again it’s offroad on some of the ganrliest stony/rock tracks I’ve ever been on Surprised. One track had an up hill climb as there was too much boggy mud in the mangrove swamps to risk crossing.  The track was that gnarly that I spend 30 minutes packing it with rocks to make it climbable for the standard clearance on my Pajero, so with 4wd Low Range engaged Up I went, clunk clunk still hit rocks, Thank Fuck for the under-body protection I had fitted, but I did managed to climb the hill, and then a slow grind on rocky tracks to the beach at King Bay.  Glad I got there at low-tide which exposed all the unseen hazards at high tide, which included tree branches, worn out jetty’s , large rocks and boulders, metal frames, and I thought to myself fark that, so I went in search of another spot.  When I got home, I had a look at the under body protection (thick steel plates) and I had 2 large one cm deep dents in them, much better than a hole in the oil sump or turbo intercoolerSurprised

Drove to Whitnall Bay only to find the eaterrly is off-shore there, and the risk of getting blown out to open oceanSurprised, so canned that.

Settled on Cowrie Cove, again 4wd only, a very rough track including stones, rocks, corrugations, mangroves, mud holes, water crossings, wasn’t doing my anxiety much good, but upon arrival I thought, wow this looks good, and the best spot so far, and I’ll definitely be back, hopefully tomoCool.  My most enjoyable sail so far.

Wow Joe. This is trailblazing stuff. Always more enjoyable when the journey is as good as the destination. Glad you're having a good look around. As a keen 4wdriver and someone who has seen quite abit of the Pilbara, I know that rock type well. Be carefull to carry a good spare tyre and a UHF incase you are out of mobile range. I look forward to more adventures from "skinny outback Joe".Cool
