Shoalwater, WA, AU   Foil gear, 2XC 7.8

Fun foil at the local with Stroppo today. With both of us keen to try out a few different combos with our new wings and fuselages.

First up we rigged too big a sail for the wind further out and made the mistake of putting the larger stabiliser on the longer fuselages. I left the shore and strait up on to the foil up wind to the causway which felt ok apart from I hadnt moved my harness lines back for the bigger sail and it was fairly powered up. I was going to stop and adjust them but decided to do a bear away first. soon as I started to pick up speed it was obvious things wernt going to end well, the large stab was forcing the front wing up  and nothing I could do would push it down. Big breach and over the front for a painfull head slap on the water. As I was recovering in the water I watched as Strop started to send it off the wind, I think he was laughing too hard at my stack that he had exactly the same result as me. We headed back to shore to put the smaller stab on, On the way back Strop decided to try another bear away which ended up with the same result appart from this time I was following quite close behind. with the rapid change in direction to avoid the mini tsunami I launched into the air again.  After a quick pit stop  things were much more controlable and had a great time blasting around. as forcast the wind subsided so out came the big front wings. Both of us were a bit nervous about using these after our stacks in the morning. We neednt have been, They were great to use, even in the larger gusts that kept coming through, just a bit slower. Still a couple of more combos to try but we learned the hard way what not to do today but most of the day we had it right.

Top five foil day

Great write up Swindy. Laughing I wonder if the Navy boys were nervous with bouncing bombs on their doorstep?

Ha ha Ross. Their defences were hopeless against us. Hope we never get invaded for real.
