Beginners blunders !! First time using my GW-60 and logged 2 sessions, problem was I couldn't log the 2nd session as it included my drive back to Adelaide !!! So I don't reckon the administrators would accept my 50+ knot average !! :)

Lake George, SA, AU. Met up with JB and I tagged along with him. After quickly heading into Beachport to get more water and dump rubbish, I returned to 5 Mile with him already rigged up and ready to go. Ok, we're sailing here today Cool. So, Off we go. Being a Stansbury sailor, I used to wobbling out to the wind line 200m away. 5.5 Cheetah, Patrik 92 and 22 speedweed. Weed is nice and long (I'm guessing a metre ?), but water is very deep. Should be good in a few months.

So, I just followed JB, where ever he went, I went and we ended up in Bay next to Uncle Kevin's point. Sailing in there was ready good until I hit what I believe was a star picket. I went to look for it (to identify what I hit), but couldn't find it. This really gave me doubts (farmers do this at Boggy, but they are predictable locations). I stopped JB and told him. He wasn't surprised. So I tacked down wind to where the chop was, and sailed there for the remainder.

This is where I hit the metal object:

We did that until JB could not stand it any longer and called it a day. It was still better than Boggy IMO.

After coming in, JB recommended Packin Point, and so that's where I headed. I had a really good time there. There is a point where there is a pole/star picket, and I was coming in behind that where water was flat but still windy and doing full tint plane exit gybes out of that point. As me and JB discussed, it would be good if there was a metric on a good looking gybe (as opposed to a good Alpha).

With my fin damage, my fin kept on spinning out when bearing away (I nearly had on off the first time it happened). So, after putting up with that for a bit, I decided to fix it and then test it to make sure it's good for Stansbury. So, I took a small pair of scissors out of my car and planed the fin edge with them (while fin was in board). I tested it - tested ok. No more spin outs Cool

Camping was really good. The rain put pressure on me to cook, set up swag and cooking etc was one handed (whiile holding an umbrella). I camped at three different spots and had a challenging time cooking in 30knot howeling wind. At my first camping spot, I had to cook my bacon and eggs in the foot well on my car LOL Laughing

Lastly, JB spotted that my Cheetah wasn't rigged properly. Sure enough, the marker wasn't calibrated. I recal'ed and it sailed better. Good pick up JB. Thanks Wink

I'm exhausted today, sorest I have ever been after sailing He He. calfs, hamstrings back , wrists hands.

love hate relationship at boggie. TWICE as hard to sail distance than LGeorge.

BTW does anyone know exactly the location of the posts or " underwater jetty on the south side. When I have a little time Ill go over there and pull all of them out.   General location would be good but.  It would be a great southerly spped course If we knew that we werent gotin to distroy gear.

Excuse to "new person" in the team but I'm a bit of a explorer.

are ther fences in here,  I looked in there and it was fantastic for westerly spped course, apart from  "fences" ?

I have never hit any posts while sailing that run but have been told that they are about 50 metres to the west and two rows extend out 30 or so metres, but I am sceptical as to whether any are there. Over the years we have pulled out a couple from over that side. The ones you want to be more aware of are the fence posts on the northern side on the way up to the weed

Good work Burjo and welcome to the team :). As Tricky would say "PBs are bunter".

Good work with the Kays Peter. Stone Cann, is that a piller of rock ?.I wouldn't rule that out. but I hit this thing maybe at 24 knots. I didn't catapult (if I hit rock, I definately would). The board only jumped a few cm's I'm guessing. Looking at the fin, I hit object balls eye and it made a perfect uniform cut down the fin edge. It was like somebody had used an electic planer on it. A sea/lake bed rock would never be that perfect. I've hit plenty of them.

Great session guys, looks like a few got out.

Peter, yes I've hit something within that red circle, i went back to find it, but couldnt. There are a few big roots there that i've tried to pull out when having a stroll through the water but struggled too.

Peter I spoke to Norm Clarke today who is the guy who said that he had hit a post some years ago during the drought when the water was very low. He reckons that with the current depth of the water thatl we would go over the top of it.

Grand master : yes a pillar of rock I saw in that area. sounds like we need 2 tinnies and a big chain  and drag that area!  or not go in so far??

Geoff : I hate the sound of hitting something with my new patrick board let alone empale my self on one at 35 knots.

Ill make some time over summer to clear the area as best as possible. I love that section. It seems the best clearest wind for speed on southerly.

I work for a school that has a camp site on the lake and we clear the bottom with a big length of chain. You would be scared to see what we pull off the bottom!!  EEK.

cheers happy sailing

No worries Peter. What was the diameter/dimesions of this stone cann ?. It is was anything with structure, I would've offed. Whatever I hit was small or not anchored (and broke or got knocked into the weed when I hit it).
