Sanctuary Point, NSW, AU

Tried for some big km's today but it didn't eventuate. Started early in the light NE'r which was very on and off, several times coming in as the wind dropped, it wasn't working like a normal NE'r with all the smoke, no sun and a looming Southerly. I felt very safe though, the ramp was the meeting point for eight NSW surf rescue boats being used for the fire evacuation of Sussex inlet. When the NE'r finally died I derigged and started to rig for the soon to arrive 30kt southerly, but I never got to enjoy it. Talking to the life gaurds, they were getting reports the fires were approaching Wandandian, which meant I had to leave and make sure my inlaws were ok at Tomerong. The skies were red and dark, it felt and looked more like 8pm not 3pm, but at this stage it's gone around them.

7.8RSR, 72cm wide Barry, 37cm slalom fin.

Short little sail just as the southerly arrived @ Primbee. Timed to perfection, rigged in the calm smoke filled heat and hit the water just as it flicked SE. Water was low so had to walk out quite a bit just to get the 18cm fin in the water. Took a while to fill in properly then had a few nice runs in 30-35kts Southerly. It then amped up to 40kts and more consistent, so the chop came along with it. Started getting too dicey with the 18cm fin and had a few close calls. Had to pull the pin just as Tezza and Nudie hit the water, looked like it picked up even further for a while. Had to dash for a xmas dinner.

Gun GSR 6.3, iSonic W49, UFO 18/50/10.
