1530 days ago 5-8kts ENE then 20-23kts NNE and back to 5-8kts for 10 mins then back..you get the drift..Coal Point, NSW, AU
7.5m GT Turbo - RS4 ( 111ltres) 39cm C3 sting pointer
Should have got there earlier..looked great when I got there 15-18kts ENE. Tony was out enjoying it on the foil and Andrew went out. There was a big storm coming but I rigged anyway. Did one tentative 200m run in c 15kts of wind and came in and sat it out. The storm was a dud but it wrecked the wind.
Being eternal optimists we hung around and it looked like it was coming back in at 10-12kts so Andrew , Hugh and I got sucked out. It settled in at 5-8kts so I slogged upwind aiming to get above the point where I was sure the wind would come in..nothing much was happening so I had a pleasant sit over at the sand islands and cooled off.
The storm had cleared the lake , it was lovely and clear and sunny and we were the only ones out.
It looked to be coming in so I set off back and it picked up and turned NNE. Some of the patches were 20kts plus and the chop was c 3ft coming from 2 directions so it was very unpleasant and no fun on the big kit. It was offshore at Coal so I aimed to get high and run in behind the point a bit to get back.. That meant I had to go off the wind a bit and it was a brown pants ride in through the mess.
I got a bit overconfident once I hit the flatter water inthe lee and decided to go for it in the gusts. The wind was behind me and I couldn't see what was coming and I got hit by a big one and splattered hard. My feet were wedged very hard into the straps so only my back one came out . My ankles are ok but I think the neck won't be very happy tomorrow.
Decided to unrig the 7.5m and either go home or rig the 6m. Halfway through it had dropped off and Andrew was close to home so I decided to go out again.. Andrew obviously thought the same as he gybed and went back out.
Sucked in..after falling in and swearing trying to get going in the swirly gusts in the lee I got going and out in the middle it was b horrible again.. Why have I done this? .. Luckily there were some lulls and by bearing off in those I managed to get back in one piece.
Yuck..Bit like sailing a winter westerly in Belmont Bay..you need a big board for the lulls but then the chop is atrocious..
Of course as we were derigging it died to 5-8kts again..
Pretty crappy session..
Tony , Hugh , Andrew and I
