1531 days ago Grassy Point, CC, TX. Finally got wind with enough east in it to try the Turtle Island Slicks. It seemed doubtful that it was strong enough, though - very few whitecaps in sight, and no chance to plane for the first mile. Fortunately, the wind picked up a bit then, and I was powered in the gusts.
The good news is that the spot works, and access is easier than I thought if you know where it's shallow. The bad news is that the water level has dropped almost a foot so the island blocks the wind a bit more, and that the spot will work best with an even more easterly direction, which we rarely get. The other bad news was that I got to close to the island on the way back and found the spots that were too shallow for my 24 cm fin. The catapult was almost slow-mo since I was pinching upwind and going only 18 knots, but I stayed hooked in, and all that winter fat was too much for the boom. Seems to be a clean break, though, so I can probably fix it when we get home. The trip back was 4 km, no problem after I had turned the boom around. I did, however, hold back a bit, which was a bummer because that was a nice downwind run through pretty flat water.
After going home and eating lunch, the sun came out, and the wind picked up, so I just had to go out for a second session - this time on FF89/RB7.0/BPWS"34" instead of the FF112/SB7.8/XT24. Nicely powered this time but it took a while to get upwind to the flat water, and by the time I was ready for some square and downwind runs, the wind started dropping. Still nice to get a few 3.5 km runs in mostly flat water in
