1500 days ago Fun session at Yunbas.
Ian was already there when Fangy and I arrived, walked out to the point for a wind reading, (around 15kts), met Joe, Michael, Tim and Mark on the way back.
I rigged the bigest gear I'd bought, the 6.2 koncept and 53cm board, would have liked to plug in the 26cm@45deg, but fangy wasn't sure about weedburgs or depth, so to be on the safe side went with the 20cm@55 deltoid.
It started off very slow, couldn't find any 15kt wind! Managed to float over the boat channel, then hooked in and floated around for about 2km. Wind then slowly picked up until I was flying around. The deltoid felt great in the small areas of flat stuff I found, but I just lacked confidence in it when it got less than flat. Not that it missbehaved, I only spun out a couple of times, underpowered up wind.
Ross and I were very surprised when none of the others joined us, it certainly wasn't because of lack of room! Two sailors in 6km is hardly crowded.
You can see from this, I floated out when it was WNW, but as soo as it swung W it picked up.

1500 days ago The Boomer Brigade, consisting of Iain, Michael and Joe and a couple of Peskys in the form of Woody and Tim, joined Cap’n Calm and myself at Yunderup. We practised a bit of greeting elbow work in the age of BoomerRemover Virus and then a few of us set about rigging. I went for the big kit and headed out while the wind was still a bit too NW for a straight run downhill to Boombas. The pre frontal breeze was a bit dodgy at times but I was planing most of the time. The rain was made it difficult to see where I was going so once I was down at Boombas I had to ease up on the accelerator for fear of hitting Narimba Quay by mistake. It turns out I was well clear of that chunk of limestone. Similarly, there was very little weed about and plenty of water everywhere; almost perfect for this time of year.
I had a few runs around the paddocks and was well impressed at my personal levels of social distancing. No one closer than 6 km’s away seemed a healthy margin.
The front came through and the breeze swung more westerly and picked up. The Cap’n came charging downhill to say hello, and the two of us had the place to ourselves until I ran out of go-go juice. I think both of us had our kit red-lining, certainly for me getting the Barge into the low 30’s during the long runs was energy sapping…but what a blast it was. Nothing like having the 3 metres of the beast out of the water and riding on the fin.
The Boomer Brigade and Peskys didn't join us which has me a bit worried that Iain might have buggered up his back when he attempted to lift the Barge unassisted. I don’t know what happened to that mob, but I am hoping that all is OK. It will be tragically bad call if they decided it wasn’t worth sailing, because dead-set, it was a Top Ten Fangy Day for a change.
