AlfaMale (18459km): Good session on Botany with Justin, Dave and Chris, foiling around, keeping our distance :) I had a bit of a chat with Monty last week about imporving my speed, because at the state and nationals (and chasing Remi on the bay) I have always been 5-10% slower. So today I applied a few tips for my Loft SkyBlade (mainly more downhaul today) and some other observations about speed. Key one being that fast sailors don't sheet out. I've watched a few videos like this one https://www.facebook.com/intformulawindsurfingclass/videos/415191725928126/ and you can see the foot of the sail stays sheeted in between the straps (50s-70s especially). Whereas I used to let it sheet out a lot. Now I've worked out how to keep the power on and absorb the gust by sitting into the harness and driving the power into the foil. Takes a bit (lot ) of guts... especially going upwind into 18k with a 10.0! The amount of power is phenomonal. I reakon with a bit of insanity and free replacement gear you could bounce of the water, lean back and sheet in for a massive air, 2m to maybe even 3m up, without a wave!
Anyway at the start of the day I was slowest upwind, and by the end I was close, keeping up with the gang (not within 2m, that would be anti-social).
Wild winds, started off at about 8 knots. I thought I saw a whitecap but turned out to be seagulls :). Then when we hit the water it bounced around and peaked at 18 knots and rainy before dying off to 2 knots just as we got back to the beach..... slogging for about 10min.
