RRD Firestorm, Severne Foil & 5.3M KA Koyote

First outing on the foil ready firestorm & a few challenges.

Had some nice long flights at top speed which settled everthing down although a tad scary at times.

A few good crashes, all breaches, some worse than others.

A lot of time spent trying to water start in not much wind with a small sail.

A few uphauls.

16 knots @ 0.8 metres out of the water makes everthing feel twice as fastSurprised

Fun day, more tomorrow Cool

Update from me on 1/4/2020....and no this isn't an April Fool's post!!!

As you can see above, I sailed yesterday at Melville from the usual spot. The last few times I've sailed, there has hardly been anybody around, but yesterday was obviously different with a bit of breeze. When I arrived there were a fair number of free parking spots in the now 50% sized carpark....and there was plenty of rigging room, so social distancing was not an issue. There were a reasonable number of sailors out (mostly on the foil things!) and when I came back into the beach to pack up, the carpark was almost full. I managed to get some reasonable space and de-rigged much quicker than usual and pretty well left as soon as I had packed the car....I hope nobody thought I was rude leaving so quickly. The reason I did leave quickly was that I was pretty uncomfortable with the number of people in a relatively small area....this included kids. I wasn't convinced that good social distancing was possible.

Now I don't want to sound alarmist but as a medical scientist at the front line I have a bit of insight into the COVID-19 situation. Even though I work in Immunology at FSH, my degree was a major in microbiology, so I know a bit about bugs! I really urge my friends and other sailors to please take this situation seriously....please don't congregate like I saw yesterday afternoon....going sailing is fine but maybe think about rigging etc somewhere less crowded. We need to protect each other...we all need to contribute. Saying that I doubt I will be sailing (at least from the usual Melville carpark) for the forseeable future.

Stay safe all of you and please heed all the advice about distancing.

Agreed, Steve, and thankyou for making the point so well. We can't be too complacent about this Covid 19. It is nasty and VERY infectious.

and I always imagined you worked in a car dealership... Laughing

Sorry if I offended you, I just thought it was funny. Amazing how wrong impressions can be - you just seemed so knowledgable about cars!
