That’s 5 days in a row and I am officially all windsurfed out, thank goodness we have light winds for tomorrow and then some wind from the north but crap tides:( Mag went out on her bike early to miss the people and I was hoping the wind wouldn’t fill in so after a great video call from Grandson Arlo I did my exercises in the warm, sunny back garden. Then after lunch the wind built and Peter Edmunds was at The Dip rigging 8.5 as yesterday so I decided to go and check it out. Mag came down with me so she could walk back and there three there, Peter, Ian and Richard. With the ENE wind around 15 knots I rigged 7.8 for the foil as fin sailing in marginal conditions when you have wind with tide is not the best fun, beating both ways just to stay in the same spot. The foil defiantly gives you more options upwind and down, much easier on the knees too, nowhere near as fast as a fin board but I can’t believe how exciting sailing at 16/17 knots can be, just feels so much faster!!! I was soon flying in a good breeze and after a few runs in front of The Dip I headed off downwind, making The Manor Martello in a couple of runs, it was challenging running down the big swells and went in a couple of times, having tired legs didn’t help! The beat back was good with the wind gusting to 18 knots and the sea was very lumpy making flying challenging as you have to constantly move your weight back and forward to try and miss the waves, in the end I sailed a lot of it with the board just skimming the water, not perfect but less tiring on the legs! The shortie was a mistake as I got a little chilly on the way back and decided against taking the fin board out even if lightweight Ed Swain was going well with 7m! Things are improving a little on my open sea foiling as most of my speeds are improving slowly!
