The Train, Southport, QLD, AU

Fox 95, S/pace 6.6, Naish 37cm

Sailing at The Train in a straight southerly and no green arrows is a pain. Only got planing once when hit by a gust from behind when it swung offshore. Ventured over to the main channel where Dave and Macro had been getting a few runs in. I had never sailed over there before so was unsure of where the banks were. And once your humming along you get a bit careless.

Dave and I had only just discussed depth before we set off again,  was just getting up to speed(17 Knots) when i heard a big crack and slid out. There was no stutter or thump, like when you hit bottom or something solid. I was in thigh deep water when i came up so i don't think it was depth. The fin had just sheared off and there was no real evidence of an impact to the box. Was jerrying up my harness as an anchor(which i've never or seen done before, for  the slog/slide home) in between trying to signal Dave.

Whilst this was going on a super cruiser went charging through the channel, which produced two seperate multi wave sets of perfect left hand pealers. If I had a malibu i would've been hooting, so had to stop what i was doing to lift my new sail over the breakers. Dave made his way over and we were discussing the best plan to get back. He spied the water police so of he went.

Thanks to Dave!!! saved from a whole world of hurt!!!!Smile

Good to see you managed to get back Colin, that's a bit of a  walk from the spit to the train

Lucky dave eventually saw me waving, he was going to run me around. The rusty cogs were grinding in my brain on the slog dead downwind to where he launched from. It's a good call to launch from that side in the flukey south winds. At least your launching into something, not getting wacked from behind.Yell
