Budgewoi Lake, NSW, AU

Tough day at the lake. Forecast 30-35kts.

Really patchy 5-15 kts and a short late session of 20-25. Choppy, too deep and no weed.

Normal story, looked windy whilst rigging, so rigged wrong gear 5.4m and 80 litre. Stood around in the middle of the lake for several hours in torential rain.

Took me an hour to get my first run over 30. Sue was blasting around making me worry that she was going faster than I was.

After lunch put in a bigger fin as the lake was starting to get really deep (above the knee). The wind was even worse, but eventually a decent 30 minute squall came through. In the middle of which i was glad I only had a 5.4.

Pretty miserable from start to finish, best bit was the ten minutes that the rain stopped which enabled me to pack up.

A great day of speed sailing!

Very patchy 5-18kts few patches 22 kts plus SSE Buff Pt Budgewoi Lake, NSW, AU level 0.5m

5.5m M2 - 80 iso - 16.5cm FF ( cutdown 22)

If I hadn't told Andrew I'd meet him down at Buff I would have turned around and gone home halfway down there. 15 degrees and it rained solidly all the way down Undecided.. arrived and sat in the car texting as it was too crappy to go outside and talk..I almost went home then but the rain eased a bit and Andrew had his wettie on so I had to make an effort..Laughing

I only had a short time as I had an appointment to go to and I procrastinated so long I ended up having even less..

I was going to use the 70ltre . Glad I didn't as I don't think I would have made it across to the 'flats'. Probably would have been better launching from Brandon. Too much east so very patchy but the few gusts I got were fun. It's certainly easy to hit 30kts on the smaller gear.. I hit 30.16 heading over to Buff in the bigger chop.. I only did 2 gybes but I did one effortless planing one ( too wide for an alpha). Surprised Maybe I just need to get used to the new WT" boards..I think they need a slightly different technique..

That one gybe made the whole crappy session worth it..no flatwater but the FF - iso combo were rock solid in the 20cm chop..Looked like it had turned more S and got a bit better as I left..

Just Andrew & I
