Damn that mini motion. SW came in eventually but I missed a lot of it. Good run all the way from Packers to the spit, managed to be close to home when it died.

5-17ktsNW-WSW then 30mins 15-20 plus The Spit Lake George, SA, AU

7.5m Turbo-RS4 ( 112ltres) - 24FF

 then

 6.2m OD - 80 iso- 18 tribal

Bit of a dud. Frown B westerlies..

I was hoping for distance as it was supposed to be a 10-15kts plus W all day . Started at 10.30 and got 6 laps of the lake well powered on the big kit and then it backed off and got dodgy.

The lake was total glass but with an up and down and veering wind I found it very hard sailing. You had to feel what was happening and a few times I couldn't figure out where the wind was coming from.

I went in for a break and watched the sailors at Packem float around. I got sucked out a few times. Once I managed to plane all the way to Packem , turned around and realised that was because I'd gone right downwind.Frown

I struggled to get back as the wind was light and had turned more NW and was pushing me towards the islands. I ended up deciding to get to the island and walk upwind along the side till i was clear..

Bad idea.. Jumped off expecting it to be knee deep and it was chest deep thick weed with not enough wind to restart. I struggled in to the shallows and then found lots of limestone outcrops hidden by the weed. Or at least the fin found the rocks and made ominous noises..Undecided

I felt sorry for the rocks as it was a FF..Laughing

Had another break but noticed it seemed to have come in so back oyt and maxed on the big kit..Frown

 Another big kit PB 30.73kts..Cool

The weed was about 1cm under the water and the combination of lightwind and a thick foiled fin made it a bit dodgy getting through at times. Still it was glass everywhere so you could bearaway in deeper water if you found some wind.

I decided to go in and rerig a more suitable combo. Unfortunatley it blew it's head off all the time I was rigging and died to 5 - 10 kts by the time I got back out..Yell

I was watching everyone else killing it..grr

I was determined to use the smaller kit so went out for a float. Of course it kicked back in after I'd derigged..Undecided

Plenty of sailors from Packem up using the glass.

 Just me and later Firie.

A light westerly came in around 3pm. Started around 10 knots and gradually built up to 15+ before easing off.

Isonic 117 , Loft 7.8 , Delta 20.

Some lovely glass over near the spit so started working upwind(slowly in my case)so I could have some nice long downwind runs , but the wind started dropping off so headed back to Pakin instead.

Nice Jeff, except you copied muzzas gloves as well as his sail 😂 Bruce are you having issues charging down there? It should last all day. Sometimes you think it’s finished then you put it on the charger again and it will take some more.

I think it was charged, 2 green lights. I had it in backpack.  I used to put it on chest and was ok.

I suspected that Bruce from the look of the data.

The Motion Mini has two things that make it different from most other GPS.
The first is a directional antenna. This means it works best when the top of the GPS is facing up towards the Zenith (vertical centre of the sky), and it reception is correspodingly degreaded if the antenna is facing the horizontal or down. It is specifically designed to get great reception when worn as intedned facing the sky on the bicep.
The second is that is deliberatly tuned in the software to only use the best strong satellite signals. This is a powerful strategy to get the very best accuracy, but it does mean that if reception is severly compromised by wearing in a way unintended by the designer, you may not get any useful data at all. In other words, Excleent or nothing.
I discovered this early in my testing when I took it on a Motorbike ride in my front waist poket, The data dropped in and out and the much of the data recorded was horrible.

Anyhow, it's an easy fix: Just wear it in an orientation as intended by the designer and not under or behind anything like wet material which will even further degrade it's reception. Smile
