Convincing underdone. I had the big gear in the car, but didn’t want to be overpowered. I suppose I got what I wanted. Careful what you wish for comes to mind.

The wind was trying, but never quite suceeding, but anyday on the big girl is a good day.

1164 days ago 1 categories first try of the Avalon 5.5 4 cam sail.Plugged it into the 55cm board with 26@45 weedy. Tide was high so bigger fin made sense. Wind dropped off as I rigged, but had to go out anyway, floated around for a while and only managed 16kts, so came in and waited for it to pick back up. When it did, whole rig felt out of balance and draggy. Mainly the fin just felt too big, it was railing up and pushing nose down. So came in and changed to the 23@40-60. I also did the unforgiveable and increased the downhaul a couple of Cm. Everything felt lighter and more slppery, except the fin kept ventilating unless I kept weight off the windward rail, opposite problem to the 28. I probably should have experimented with downhaul before changing fins, I'm old enough to know better!
Basil complained that I was faster on my 5.5 than he was on his 6.8 KA race, So I offered him a swap, he loved my sail, but I just found the race very heavy without much more power.
Anyway it was good first taste, and I can't wait to try it in more wind.
Only had one incident that hurt, an awkward dismount in the shallows had my right knee pushed up to my chin, from then on my right hip was very tender, and I limped around while downrigging.
A good mob of mobbers today, I'm not going to try and remember them all because I'm bound to forget somebody!
