Area 45, Mahers Landing, VIC, AU

Fun day in some pretty fierce winds. Great to see so many familiar and new faces!

Thanks to Kempsta for showing me the logistics of the port tack speed run. Pretty interesting to get into - a dash across some chop then a sharp right turn (or slam into the bank!) down a very broad run with bank on one side and chop on the other with a small strip of flatish water in between. Then a hulking great buoy at the end of the short run - do I go inside it? (and hit the bank?) or do I go wide? Meanwhile getting buffeted and pulled around by crazy gusts and hoping I don't catapault into the damn thing! Not really used to a port tack speed run. Kempsta noted quite aptly - this run makes Sandy Point look like a speed run for dummies. I was pretty powered up with a 5m sail...

Lost my mojo a bit after a very hard catapault slam into the drink breaking a harness line. Sailed back in to get another line but by the time I had got back out the wind on the run had swung a bit more south and dropped so was too broad for the speed run.
