AlfaMale (18525km): Big gear training day...initially in 8-12kts increasing to 15 later in the day. Gear: 10m Phantom Sail, FMX Hyperion 91cm and new F4 foils. There were a few windings and kites out on foils a young girl windsurfing AUS277 and me. I started on the F4 950 in default mode with the larger tail wing... but quickly switched to use a single rear shim to change the backwing angle... in yellow. A lot more comfortable with shim installed! Definately better control of the lift, which is prodigious as you accelerate on the 115+ Fuelage. The foam pad on the FMX nose doing the job... sacrifically ripping off in my only catapult before I put the shim in.
After an hour or so the wind picked up to about 15kts so I decided to try the 850 wing, changing just one piece at a time. The smaller wing definately felt slick through the water, but surprisingly on the charts the speeds not much better... about 1.5 kts faster NM the most comparable (NW of the map). It also has ample lift, maybe accelerating more quickly and rising as a result. Also, gybing is getting easier with practice... had a few dry gybes which are always fun, just need to work a bit more on faster rig flips! And don't get me started on tacks!!!
Fun times. |
